today marks twenty years of my parents choosing to love one another the way Christ has called them to, as best as they can.
anyone who knows my parents knows that they are remarkable people; incredibly talented and simultaneously so humble you’d never know, constantly giving while taking their struggles with perseverance, and forever pursuing Jesus with a determination that blows me away.
today may mark twenty years of their committed marriage, but they’ve been beacons of love to so many more, for so much longer. when I feel sick and tired of loving people, giving to others, opening up our home, and taking from what we don’t have to support anyone who needs it, they show me that there is no end to the love from our Father and therefore there should be no end to our love for those around us. i’ve watched them treat people from the entire spectrum of backgrounds, life situations, beliefs, and more exactly the same and that has inspired me to also treat people based on the one thing we all have in common: that we were created, loved, and died for, by a God who loves us so deeply we cannot imagine it.
I am so grateful for them, their example, their out of this world support for me and all the crazy projects I take on, their love, but most importantly for their constant display that a faithfulness to trusting in Jesus rewards itself richly, deeply, and beautifully, in ways beyond human understanding. I can confidently tell you that they would say the key to life is Jesus - and He is THE most important aspect of their marriage.
So to a unique, interracial, later-in-life marriage that has shaped who I am, and given me a glimpse of Jesus’ marriage to the church - congratulations on twenty tough, but deeply beautiful years of marriage. You are appreciated and loved.
