Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our "Poets for Chicago" fundraiser for the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights! We had more than 100 people attend. It was wonderful to see so many familiar, and new, faces. Shoutouts go to Jeff Wolf for initiating the event and a whole host of others who helped make it happen including Benjamin Niespodziany, Kenyatta Rogers, James Stewart, Mary Cerney, Ian Wojcikiewicz, Justin Rosier, Alex Shapiro, Michael Dean, S. Yarberry, and everyone at Exhibit B who wasn't named! A special shoutout to my bestie, Kim Ambriz, for coming straight from work to serve drinks with me for the evening. And, of course, a huge shoutout to one of the best poetry line-ups of the year: Mark Turcotte, Brenda Cardenas, Daisy Hernandez, Stefania Gomez, Natasha Mijares, Daniel Borzutzky, Tara Betts, Robyn Schiff, and Erika L. Sánchez. Thanks to Mike Reed for donating wine, to Melissa Grubbs at Reckless Records for donating book bags, and to the many presses and journals who donated books including Wave Books, Deep Vellum, Sarabande, Copper Canyon Press, Coffee House Press, Haymarket Books, Black Ocean, The Year, Chicago Quarterly Review, Rhino Poetry, Chicago Review, Rose Metal Press, Veliz Books, Match Factory editions, and Acre Books.
