“Through severed ties, a soul is reborn”
I step into this season with a refreshed understanding of death—innerstanding that she is synonymous with change.
Death is simply a soul taking new form
and Change may be one of the most complex expressions of love.
Which breeds the question, how do you love your body when it changes? As well as, what is the role/purpose of memory?
Memory is memorializing. Grief as memory gives us an opportunity to remember how we felt about what once was. Memory as a practice can be a grounding force, anchoring us and letting us know that we do have the tools to move forward into the unknown.
To Neomi—my adolescence,
Thank you for helping me remember. I love you. Rest peacefully
My first exhibition piece featured with my family @theveryblackproject for the ‘Rest Here, It’s OK’ residency—curated by @justnfultn.studio . Upcycled with materials from people I love.
Gratitude to spirit for guiding my hands, my mind, and vessel to tell this story. Gratitude for alignment.

watching God, their eyes
with cries that fill the ocean blue.
like the calabash, we travel land to land
bearing strange fruit.
acknowledging the beyond,
holding on to our truth

Hi 👋🏾 I made a seat cushion celebrating the story of the Calabash—also known as the drinking gourd, bottleneck gourd, green gourd, and Little Dipper.
I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to create this piece of art alongside my beloved brother Bloodstone @kujichagulia143 and Justin Fulton @justnfultn.studio in the “Rest Here, It’s OK” Residency with the @theveryblackproject .
The “Calabash Story” cushion will be in company with beautiful offerings from various artist at the @thelinehotel in LA. August 8-August 31
