#ʟᴀᴛᴇʀɢʀᴀᴍ Last weekend @canberrajames and I took a wee trip to the coast to celebrate our 20th anniversary! Can't believe it has been that long, yet it also feels like no time at all. Love you James. Looking forward to the next 20 years (and more!).

Spotted this beautiful friend just hanging next to Northbourne today. Was quite inquisitive of why I was taking photos.

The murder of Alex Peretti has been replayed on social media over and over un the past week. This feels like part of a broader fascist strategy of normalising state violence. Check out my substack now - simoncopland.substack.com (and link in bio).

Yesterday I went for a walk to London Bridge Arch, close to the edge of Googong Dam. A lovely little hidden gem close to Canberra.

New on my Substack. Anthony Albanese's new hate-speech legislation is extremely dangerous. And it cannot be fixed as the very premise of it - that the state can define and legislate 'hate' is fundamentally flawed. In turn the laws need to be thrown out completely. Link in bio.

I could have easily replaced most of these songs with ten others. Good year for music. Hard to decide.

Belated New Years Post. 2025 was...a lot. It reminded me that you really never know what is around the corner. At the end of the year though I'm feeling really grateful - that we got through the year largely in one piece, that we live in a city with an amazing medical system and for all the doctors and nurses who got us through a really tough period. But more than this I'm grateful for our family (chosen and blood). This year was a year of friends and family. We had family visiting from Scotland (and around Australia), which was amazing; I was super excited to share my book with people across the country, in particular hosting events with close friends; we had lots of adventures with friends (concerts, adventures, theatre shows, and nice chills); and got to visit and hang with folks we love across Europe. And then of course when James got sick we were overwhelmed with love and support - wether you called to check in, visited from interstate to help with care, messaged, gave advice, provided a shoulder to cry on, lent us a car for months, made us food, consulted with other doctors to get advice, or sent messages of love and support, we really appreciate you all so much. It was and remains truly amazing. Last, I'm grateful to be sharing my life with @canberrajames and @iamdenominator , and that our little family keeps getting stronger and stronger. Love you both, and looking forward to more adventures, although hopefully fewer to the hospital. Here is a random collection of photos from the year.

Today was our family fun day - an adventure day chosen by a set of cards. We started off doing a conga on the side of the road and then going to Sutton, Gundaroo, Gunning, Collector, and Lerida. Visiting Op shops, cafes, wind turbines, look out points, and drinking some good wine! Thanks for the most amazing day @haliemcc 💞

Speaking to the press after passage of amendments to the EPBC Act last week, WA Premier Roger Cook indicated that he expected federal powers would be devolved to the state within a “matter of months.” Read the piece by Simon Copland & Kirsty Howey, executive directors of @conservationact and @envirocentrent respectively, on @thepointcomau ➡️ link in bio
