Simona Ruscheva is a Bulgarian-born painter based in London, whose practice explores themes of
duality, transformation, and the cyclical nature of existence. Rooted in the belief that we carry
infinite potential within us, her work reflects the tension and harmony between opposing forces -
sorrow and joy, thorn and flower, destruction and rebirth. Through vivid colour and natural
symbolism, Ruscheva creates visual narratives that echo the spiralling dance of life’s contradictions,
where suffering can lead to liberation and fire becomes a catalyst for renewal.
Ruscheva studied Fine Art Painting in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, before relocating to the UK. She
has exhibited widely, with recent solo shows including Seedlings at Galerie OVO in Taipei (2024),
Transitions in London (2022), and The Source at Keep Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, USA
(2021). Her work has also been shown in numerous group exhibitions internationally and across
London, including the Royal Institute of British Artists Annual Exhibition, where she was Highly
Commended by the De Laszlo Foundation, and the Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition.
Her achievements include being shortlisted for the Kate Bryan Art Prize (2021) and the Artrooms
Awards (2019), as well as being longlisted for the Jackson’s Painting Prize (2023) and the Holly
Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize (2022). Her works are held in private and corporate
collections worldwide, including the global art collection of Standard Chartered Bank.

Painting has always been a part of me since I was a child. The realisation of wanting to make it my livelihood, became later. And not until recently came the understanding why, striking as a thunder.
Why do I make art?
Why do I paint?
Why is it that even when life gets too much, I always come back to it, no matter what? Always.

Work from my latest series DECAY/FLOURISH, entering the field of nature. Nature has the most extraordinary power to heal, connect and restore, we are simply a glimpse, passing through the tangle.

DECAY/FLOURISH is out!
The works in this collection are unified by the theme of DECAY/FLOURISH, either literally or symbolically. Natural cycles in a constant dance with time and the odd occurrence of a human touch.
The collection marks a turn from my previous figurative works and the inception of a new exploratory stage within the infinite natural world and our bind with it. Stepping into the unknown these works are more experimental than ever, albeit small in size.
The fragility and hidden endurance of nature form a new ethereal world, vaguely resembling our own. The same and yet almost gone, filled with hollowness and contrasting shadows.
