Dear all,
In 2 1/2 weeks, I will be taking part in a Ride for Research fundraising event to raise needed funds for a #rareovariancancer. The ride will cover 900km between Canberra and Melbourne over a week of riding. If you would like to donate to this cause, then please click the link below.
We usually think ovarian cancer is a disease that affects older women, however juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumours (#jGCT) can affect girls and women at any age. My team in the Centre for Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research is leading the global research effort into jGCT, in order to find cures for these tumours which are not easily treated for girls/women who have recurrences. The ROC Incorporated #Ride4Research has been organised by an amazing couple, Peter Reaburn and Claire Reaburn, who is a survivor of this cancer.
Most grateful to Tasha Armour & the whole team at Rock for ROC for their tireless work in raising funds for rare ovarian cancers. Thank-you to all who have contributed 🙏🏼 so far. Every little bit will help, and it is very much appreciated!

Hi everyone, today is World Ovarian Cancer Day (#WOCD2020). I work with an amazing team that investigates a rare form of ovarian cancer known as Granulosa Cell Tumours. We are proud of our research, and have been tremendously supported over many years by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) (#OCRF), ROC Incorporated (#ROCInc), The Granulosa Cell Tumor Research Foundation, National Health and Medical Research Council (#NHMRC), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) (#DoD) and the GCT Survivor Sisters! The OCRF in partnership with Witchery have a campaign to raise funds for ovarian cancer research, where 100% of gross proceeds from the sale of a white shirt is donated to research.
My awesome team (Hormone Cancer Therapeutics) as well as several members of my Hudson Institute of Medical Research Centre, (Centre for Endocrinology & Metabolism) held a zoom meeting with all in White Shirts to show our support for this campaign. We hope that you can too!! #CEM_Hudson #OCRF #ROCInc #GCT #ovariancancer #teamwork #rareovariancancer #gct #fkcancer #medicalresearch #sciencesaveslives #superheroes #whiteshirtcampaign Ovarian Cancer Aussies & Kiwis Support Group Australia NZ #overies4ovaries
230,000+ women around the world are diagnosed annually with #ovariancancer!
150,000+ deaths are caused by ovarian cancer every year!!
If diagnosed in its early stages, women have an 80% chance of being alive well after 5 years. BUT unfortunately, 75% of women are diagnosed at an advanced age, when the cancer had spread and it is difficult to treat.
At the #Hudson Institute of Medical Research, our team of researchers in @cem_hudson are busy trying to understand granulosa cell tumours #GCT both adult GCT and juvenile GCT #NIGHT which are #rare #ovarian #cancers.
#ROCinc have made these tremendous Awareness Wings to increase #awareness of some of the signs for ovarian cancer. We were fortunate that the wings visited our Institute during the week in beautiful #Melbourne. My research group in the #HCT laboratory, as well as many researchers from the Institute and members from the public visited the wings to help spread this important message. Thank you all, especially the wonderful Linda and Tori for helping organise the photos.
Thank you especially to #ROCinc and Tasha and Melanie for the loan of the wings!!
