Last week, Simba had the pleasure of attending two meaningful events: UWS 's @uniwestscotland Awareness Day for International Day of the Midwife, and a National Bereavement Care Pathway (NBCP) Scotland training event. 💜
UWS's Awareness Day was a chance for their student midwives to connect with organisations like Simba to explore how to best support families across Scotland.
Taking place at the Grassmarket, our session at the NBCP Scotland event was discussing the importance and significance of Memory Making and the positive impact they have on parent identity. It was an truly inspiring day listening to other service providers and charities and how we can all work together to make a positive change in bereavement care in Scotland.

🌟 Awarded in Memory: Simba Star Award Winner – Kathleen Elphinstone 🌟
We are so pleased to celebrate Kathleen Elphinstone with a very special In Memory award.
Kathleen was nominated by her granddaughter Morag, who let us know that Kathleen, who passed away in 2024, was the most kind and generous person she has ever known. She knitted countless blankets, hats, teddies and butterflies for Simba and other charities throughout her life. Kathleen's kindness and generosity has inspired many to live life in the same way, supporting those who need it most.
On receiving this award, Morag let us know:
"I feel so proud that grandma has won this award! Kathleen found a lot of joy in helping others, and was truly one of a kind, the kind of person you gravitate towards. An avid knitter all her life, knitting for Simba was one of her favourite pastimes. She was very passionate about the work you do. Knowing that her incredible efforts and kindness are remembered on is wonderful. She was an incredible lady, and we miss her every day." 💜

Today is International Day of the Midwife, we honour and thank every midwife who stands beside families in their most joyful and most heartbreaking moments. 🦋
Your kindness leaves a lasting imprint, helping families feel seen, supported, and less alone in their grief.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to support bereaved families to honour and remember their precious baby, whenever the time is right. Midwives are such an important part of that journey, offering comfort and care when it is needed most.
