Threads and Connection was a commissioned project, but it quickly became personal. It was about Sudan — my homeland — at a time when I hadn’t been able to visit for over two years, and later, when war made that distance feel heavier and more permanent. I drew inspiration from different regions of Sudan — north, south, east, west, and center — not to represent them literally, but to sit with their differences, their coexistence, and the shared threads that hold them together. Through fabric, form, and detail, I was searching for ways to stay connected to a place I couldn’t physically return to. There is drama and a sense of royalty in these designs, but they come from pride rather than spectacle. Pride in culture, in history, in resilience, and in the richness that exists across Sudan’s many identities. Looking back, this project feels like a quiet act of holding on — to memory, to belonging, and to love for a home that continues to shape how I see and make work, no matter the distance. Happy Independence Day My Beloved Sudan, May this war end and may we meet soon. This project began as a quiet experiment — upcycling paper and old fabrics, simply to see how far materials could be pushed. I was curious about touch, folding, tearing, layering. About how different materials hold emotion differently in the hands. There was no outcome in mind, only the act of making — letting feeling lead before form, and allowing play to guide the process. It taught me how softness, fragility, and care could become part of the work, not something to hide. This project opened a door for me — toward working more consciously with meaning, connection, and what materials can carry beyond themselves. AL-FUNDUG was my first film directing experience. It was born during lockdown, after I came into contact with Covid and had to isolate alone. In that stillness, fear took many shapes — fear of life, of loss, of time passing without meaning. I wrote those fears into characters, giving them space to exist instead of pushing them away. When isolation ended, I realized that this period was a wake-up call. Those fears weren’t there to stop me, but to remind me of the value of the life I was given — and the responsibility to move, create, and speak through my work. Find the link to watch in my bio ✨ So much love for my friends who always trusted in me and came to collaborate without hesitation when I shared the script. Divas was one of the first times I gave myself complete freedom. I came up with the idea, designed the costumes, and built them by upcycling whatever I had around me at the time. There was no one to impress, no rules to follow, and no expectations to meet. Just the joy of making — dressing a character, exploring my love for avant-garde fashion and cinema, and allowing myself to be expressive without explanation. It taught me how important it is, sometimes, to create without being asked — and to trust the instincts that show up when you do. So much love to my amazing friends who collaborated and made me love what I do even more. This was the very first projects where I stepped fully into costume design. Working on You Will Die at Twenty taught me how clothing could carry silence, time, and inner worlds—not just aesthetics. I was learning through observation and listening: to the characters, to the environment, to the emotional weight a garment can hold without explanation. It shaped how I think about costume as something lived in, not styled. Looking back, this project grounded my relationship with storytelling through dress and marked the beginning of my path into costume work. I didn’t share this fully then, but it shaped my way of working more than I realized. #8YearsOfMaking #costumedesign #filmmaking #art

2018 — I quit working as a dentist without a clear plan of where I was going. What I did know was that working with my hands — making and experimenting — was something I couldn’t ignore. This collage brings together fragments from those early years: experiments, mistakes, repetitions, and small discoveries. Moments of trying, unlearning, and slowly figuring things out through materials, memory, and my body. Looking back now, I can see how these beginnings shaped what I still care about today: texture, patience, storytelling, and process. As this year comes to an end, I want to share five projects I never fully shared before — projects that quietly shaped my identity and practice over the past eight years. I didn’t share them then, but they shaped the way I work more than I realized. #8YearsOfMaking #costumedesign #filmmaking #art

Cotton Queen has been one of the biggest challenges for me and the team, building Sudan in Egypt wasn’t easy. The genuine talent and real work paid off after all. I’m so happy and proud to be a part of such extraordinary experience. Working as Sudan’s art direction consultant has definitely been a big responsibility and very challenging yet we managed to make it happen. In this journey I was blessed to find my costume family the girls that made the best team on set, held me up in hard times and kept me moving forward. I’m so grateful for them and for their infinite dedication. Forever grateful to @suzannahmirghani the Sudanese women with the most generous and humbled heart, she gave her all into this project and trusted each and every one of the team. She was a real leader and true artist throughout ❤️ For more to come and bigger celebration ✨🎥✨ #sudan #costumedesign #filmmaking #venicefilmfestival #worldpremiere #artdirection #heritage #inspiration
