Opal Ring
Because the Dice was received so nicely I made another scene for the "Realistic Camera" including my recent Opal shader.
I still find it fascinating how the aberration makes the render look really analog and gives it the feeling that it went through some glass onto film stock.
As I found the following quote really fitting, I leave it in here as well: As someone smart once said, the errors of a format will be the thing that it will be remembered for. If you cater to it, it will become a style. So I took that idea and dialed in a whole lot of color fringing and imperfections especially noticeable in the closeup (100mm Lens) to give the render an organic and artistic style not often seen in CGI.
Again I needed to render the scene with 8K samples and do a lot of denoising on the render-pass with the moving light. That's the benefit of rendering your light passes in layers. So you can denoise only the one light that is noisy and don't have any detail loss in the lights that rendered nicely.
I have released a video tutorial today on how to shade an opal like this. If you are interested check my recent story if it's still online or go to my youtube.com/silverwingVFX

Dice Chapter II
This was mainly made to explore Octanes "Realistic Camera" emulation.
I found it fascinating how the aberration can take a render and make it look very analog with all the lens inefficiencies that film makers usually want to get rid of.

One downside for all of this is that you need a lot of samples to get out a decent result.
The shader is built up with vertex maps marking the convex and concave areas and then randomizing them using noise. If you want to get your hands on the dice model and material, it is part of the #patreon initiative where you can find all the scenes I am using in my tutorials.

Blue Dice
So simple yet so detailed.
I made this dice for a recent video tutorial about color profile baking out of Octane for C4D.
I really liked the transparent one so I decided to give it the good old turntable treatment.

Encore v3 Collaboration
This is a collaboration with @matthewencina the creator of the amazing Encore keyboard. Under his brand name Mod Musings he develops great products that combine usability and lifestyle with a vibe of warm tech.
As an owner of a v1 Encore I followed Matthews endeavors and was really happy when he suggested a collab.
As the Blender Conference was coming up and I was still in search of a talk I had a light bulb moment and thought it's a win-win-win. I get something to present. Matthew gets a nice animation of his product and Otoy's Render Network who sponsored this talk has something nice to show off as well.
Huuuuge shout out to @humanrobotsoul aka Simon Damborg for his last minute audio artistry that elevates this piece to the next level!
Due to scheduling I had to create this piece plus the presentation within just a little more then a week in a software I was not as familiar with as I would have loved to be π
Here are some tech specks:
Created with Blender and Cycles.
Rendered on @otoy@rendertoken
Workdays: 7 Days Workhours: 132 Hours π₯΅
Theoretical Render-Time on a RTX 5090: 11.42 Days
So I was really appreciating the decentralized rendering that the Render Network provided as I otherwise wouldn't have been able to finish in time!
As always I hope you like the outcome!

Welcome to the Other Side
So this is literally the other side of the #RadpberryPi π π
I hope I am not going on your nerves with it.
Modeled and assembled in @MaxonVFX #c4d
Some additional modeling in #plasticity
Rendered in @OTOY #octanerender
Comped in #digitalfusion
As always, I hope you like it π
RaspberryPi Clean
As I am currently working on some print files to pretty up my office I re-lit the #RaspberryPi I created lately.
I hope you like it!
Modeled and assembled in @maxonvfx #c4d Rendered in @otoy #octanerender Comped in #digitalfusion
As well as some closeups, wires and the nodes for the PCB material.
I modeled a portion of the part using #plasticity So not all of it has nice SDS wires. But especially for such technical parts a CAD modeler is a god sent!

Compact-Cassette Stills
Since I want to make a framed picture collage of data storage devices to hang on the wall I made some clean beauty renders of the Compact Cassette.

Compact Cassette
following up other "Data Storage Devices" such as the Compact Disc and the MiniDisc I decided to create a Compact Cassette.
Though other than the preceding objects this was modeled almost exclusively in Plasticity. A CAD modeler that is known for its ease of use. Especially for artists.

MiniDisc
I decided to also post the recent MiniDisc renders in my portfolio here. I think they look beautiful and I am thinking about printing the clear Maxell one to hang on my wall.
Modeled with Cinema 4D using Subdivision Surface.
And of course shaded and rendered with Octane.
I hope you like it π

Caustic Turntable
Last week I worked on a small scene with caustics.
At some point I noticed that Octane does not have a dedicated AOV for caustics.
Since I wanted one to have the full control in compositing, I worked out a workaround and made a tutorial about it.
I hope you like the animation as well as the tut.
If you are interested how this was all done, the scene is available on my Patreon: patreon.com/silverwingvfx
2025
Hey there and a happy, healthy, good, successful and peaceful 2025 to all of you.
I hope the thumbnail is now working. If not then I leave it as a black image in my gallery.
I noticed that I did not post on IG for a long time. At least not regular posts.
So I hope that you like this small animation that I made using C4D, C4D Pyro and Octane. With lots of help of fields.
