Ten years ago this weekend... we shared this incredible experience along with 10 of our very best musical Brisbane/Meanjin friends, honouring the genius of David Bowie and the brilliant ZIGGY STARDUST album, just a few weeks after his sudden passing in 2016. Here are the first minutes of that first show at Brisbane Powerhouse - the iconic Five Years, led by our Lucinda on lead vocals, a song we have continued to play in various forms since that time. We send a giant wave of gratitude to everyone who came with us on our ride through 2025. We started the year with two lovely shows in full band mode with These Idle Hands, then pivoted into our ‘METAL MODE’, releasing our third album Metal, two singles and two videos made with the brilliant Rhys Tyack and our dear performer friends Brian Lucas and Lisa O’Neill. We played @thecaveinnstagram (twice), @bansheesbar @alchemixstudios and finished the year at the stunning @elm_house_ at Mount Glorious. The voice is such an expression of everything humans can be and feel. We’re so grateful to our friend and producer for METAL, Jamie Trevaskis who has a way of tuning in to our sensibilities and meeting us in our vision, where the sonic aesthetic is very much about evoking the world that the songs inhabit so the listener may do that too. It was Jamie who encouraged us to make a studio recording of METAL when we shared a house concert performance together in 2023. That night, Jamie performed a set of Twin Peaks material with Mia Goodwin and Rohan Seekers, and we performed a super-stripped back set of Gary Numan songs. Those embryonic versions have become the album METAL and our recent full performances in full ensemble mode. I always feel so safe and looked after in Jamie’s hands and ears. He loved the relationship between the voice, the metallic and the organic, and we love the combination of human, imagined and surreal elements. Wood and ivory and strings meet metal and voice. I love to feel all the different human elements of vulnerability and fully human world of the voice. For me, the album is also an incredible time capsule, linking together my earliest encounters with Gary Numan, exploring my voice as an actor, collaborating with James on so many visions and finally stepping through the beautiful Australian bush to a tiny cottage studio at Mt Nebo to record the album with Jamie. Most recently we have had the pleasure of creating the clear vinyl edition of the album and preparing for our concert at Elm House, Mount Glorious this coming Sunday. We’re so excited to be performing in the amazing @elm_house_ at Mount Glorious in two weeks.
