Now Showing: “Trio” from Bob Galloway (@bobgalloway90 ), Oliver Hughes, and Dean Terasaki (@silvers_dk ). On display from April 17th through May 10th. Together, this trio present very different approaches to contemporary photography: Galloway creates temporal images that vanish within a life cycle, similar to the organic material used to create them. Hughes interprets current events through a biblical lens as a way to focus on timeless issues. Terasaki makes montages using letters written by Japanese Americans who were illegally “relocated” into WWII concentration camps. These letters were mailed to his family’s pharmacy and are being combined with contemporary photographs of the historical locations. Gallery House: Friday 6-9pm Saturday 1-5pm Sunday 11-3pm #eyeloungephx #modifiedartsphx #azlocalartists #rooseveltrow

Teri and I were honored and proud to provide an Origami-adjacent activity on the day that the Ireichō Book of Names visited the @chandlermuseum . Lots of wonderful conversations with visitors from as far away as Alaska who had come to add a simple ink stamp acknowledging the name of a relative who was once incarcerated in the WWII Japanese American concentration camps. I am grateful that I was given an opportunity to add a stamp for Bunichi Matsui, a person who it is believed has no living relatives. #sayhisname Bunichi Matsui, who was born in 1897 and passed on in 1969, appears on records for the Merced Assembly Center as well as both the Amache and Tule Lake concentration camps. I am deeply honored that my exhibition, Echoes Unearthed, was the space where visitors had their moments with their family and relatives whose names live on in the Ireichō Book of Names. Thrilled and honored to share that my work has been selected for Photolucida’s Critical Mass Top 200 for the second year in a row. This year’s submission included the newest work from my Veiled Inscriptions series, which explores history and memory by layering archival letters with my own photographs. This is an installation shot of “Happy New Year!” from my portfolio. The installation’s montage combined my images from the Poston incarceration camp in western Arizona with both sides of a postcard sent in 1943 to T.K. Pharmacy. Viewers were encouraged to leave a message on a paper tag about the one item they would bring if faced with incarceration and tie the tag to the camouflage material. Camouflage was produced by incarcerees for a few months at Poston. A new installation of this piece is currently on view at the Arizona Capitol Museum until mid-October. I’m grateful to @photolucida @denshoproject and to everyone who’s supported this work—thank you for helping keep these stories visible. Letters courtesy of the T.K.
