Focusing on the fundamental relationship that you create with the artist. Doing this makes the artist realize you are more than just a product. Beat making and producing is arguably just as important in the creative process. The irony of all this is, in order to make the best beats and music possible, relationships come first. Look at all your favorite tracks and start to figure out what percentage of them focused on the relationships over anything. I think you might be surprised. If we want to continue to push the boundaries of music, we need to remember that this is a team sport !
The current Beat selling landscape interestingly seems to position the producer as more of a product with impersonal ecommerce selling aspects. This has allowed the artist to forget how beneficial having another set of ears on their project can really be. Over the past few months, I have had the awesome opportunity of really practicing what I preach, and helping artists from the concept to the final mx. I feel that the music is undeniably superior from what it would have been with only one set of ears. Importantly , these projects have had a sense that the artist and the producer are equals, which is something I think both producers and artists need to remember.
Don’t get me wrong, these things exist on a scale, because without these platforms many producers would struggle to create an income from their art. Being able to live off what you would do for free is truly a blessing, but we must always remember what the second order consequences of pursuing this ecommerce tactics can do to the culture and the game of music making.
Im really excited to branch out more into doing more video essay style content. This video has broken my belief that to have a personal brand as a producer, you need to make content with the music that you have produced in it. I am reminded now that there are so many stages and approaches within the creative process.
More to come soon

I think if we as a community can come to understand and agree upon a set of terms and the actual definitions of these terms, will we then create an environment where we see more producers taking action to start true relationships in music. Relationships that go beyond sending beats back and forth to ultimately create great not good music
