Our first storm on the East Coast turned out to be an overnight torrential downpour. Water leaked in through the sunroof overnight and soaked the rear corner of the interior because the sunroof drains were clogged. This required breaking down the camper and drying everything out.
Being in SoCal most of its life, rain wasn't too much of a concern, but out here, keeping those drains clear is important.
Removing the sunroof, cleaning the gutter (which was already pretty clear), and using compressed air to blow out the drain lines of dirt and debris cleared everything up. After some testing, all lines were draining properly again.

We made it safely to NC! The Element cracked 273k miles along the way and didn't break a sweat the entire trip (thanks to a solid pre-trip service.) The 6-speed yielded a few more mpg, even fully loaded down as it was, with a corrected average of 22.4 mpg. Mind you, this is with all of our modifications, a fully loaded camper, AND additional stuff for the extended move. We (literally) ran into the insect welcoming party when we got to the Southeast, a testament to the distances we traveled, which was plastered across the front bumper of the E.
We did notice a significant drop in Element sightings as we traveled further east, but still managed to apply some rules to an unsuspecting Element during our brief stay in Texas

Take Nothing for Granted...
This past weekend we saw the unfortunate effects of people not respecting the public spaces offered to us. We took a trip to the Eastern Sierras and our last stop was a night in Alabama Hills.
We hadn't been since late summer of 2021, and were concerned about what we were seeing when we last visited. Too many large groups, too many people camping in poor locations, and a frightful amount of trash and solid waste left behind that we did our best to clean up.
The effects of that trend were clear on this weekend's visit. Tons of new signage closing off large portions of the hills for day use only, as well as plenty of signs prohibiting camping in certain (poor) spots. For now, the remaining overnight camp spots are still free, and they've installed port-o-pottys near the entrance for those incapable or unwilling to handle their own waste.
These steps were undoubtedly necessary to help Alabama continue to be a safe, clean and enchanting place, and I'm glad resources were diverted to help make that happen. But if this trend continues, and people continue to treat the outdoors like their own personal toilet, these public FREE spaces WILL cease to exist.
If you need signage to tell you where to park safely and respectfully, and where the toilet is, book a site at one of the many campgrounds in the area, and leave the dispersed camping to those who are fine dealing with their solid waste appropriately.
Respect your public lands, Pack It Out, and Leave it cleaner than you found it for the next person.
