My BFA photography thesis, a depiction of internal sacred architecture. Inspired by the desire of cleansing that is manifested in Catholic baptismal fonts, this structure is a waypoint toward healing from past trauma. The font is a sepulcher commemorating a baptismal experience and the rebirth of the artist.
The piece is also inspired by the symbol of the cicada, a sonic creature burrowed underground for years, and the myth of the Orphic Egg in Greek mythology—the creation of the universe—ideas that are integral to the concept behind the fountain’s construction. Located deep within my consciousness, ‘Font of the Place Between’ is the pumping heart to my introspective universe and a vessel for the soul.
