The Author. I introduce you all to Silk and Flame! A poetry and prose book that I have spent the last year or so labouring over. It’s a look through the lessons, blessings, growth, love, anger, depression, restoration and faith journey of my twenties. If you know me, you’ll know that my twenties were…challenging, in the most colourful of ways. You’ll also know that I don’t like to talk about myself much, so writing became free therapy, a way to say everything. Poetry in particular. I never thought some pieces that I wrote as a way to release would eventually be printed on pages…laid bare for the world to see. God has an interesting sense of humour 🥴. Anyway, she’s here. As the sun prepares to set on this year, ‘GRATITUDE’ is the only word I have to express my thanks to God for consistently doing what he does best; keeping me. I had a really bad accident in July. Fell and hit my head on the concrete floor. I suffered a minor concussion and some scars that act as a reminder that He ALWAYS has a plan. Two days later, the doctors hadn’t scanned me and my symptoms weren’t improving, so I limped my way back there. They agreed to scan me, and found a tumour in my brain; it was big, it was blocking fluid from moving around my brain resulting in hydrocephalus. It was fatal. And no one knew how it got there or when it began growing, but one thing all the doctors and consultants could agree on was that me falling, was a ‘blessing in disguise’. While spending a month in hospital, one thing was sure ‘I will remain confident of this, that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living’ that was the last thing i said before the 12+ hour surgery to remove the tumour. It’s what I’m still reminding myself now. Im stronger, able to walk unaided, my memory is getting better. All things are working together for good, even though this whole experience has felt everything but good. I say all this to encourage you. God can make that very mountain before you bow at your feet. That very thing the enemy planned to finish you with, will be the thing that shows people that indeed, He lives. He can also turn that mountain into the very steps that elevate you to a greater level. Have faith; even if it’s small. Have faith.
