in case you’re new here, hey 👋🏽, my name is suki liu and i’m a detroit based calligraphy and engraving artist servicing the greater south east michigan area, but also traveling nationwide.
i specialize in the art of personalization - whether via in-studio commissions for more intricate work, to quicker live personalizations in front of your guests in minutes, i help build connection between your brand and your potential clients. i’m also here for the vibes, as my almost decade stint in hospitality has given me a well-rounded understanding on what it really means to anticipate an event’s needs, no matter how large.
beyond that, having almost 5 years in the live event industry and 8 years as a calligraphy artist, i am confident i can help bring an elevated and personal touch through calligraphy and engraving.

what started as just a budding idea 6 weeks ago became a reality this weekend. the bride and groom love traveling so much so, that she reached out to me to create the luggage tag seating chart of her dreams! i was able to custom hot foil emboss each navy luggage tag with their first and last name in gold foil, because we love a consistent theme.
not to mention, this was the first time i got to work directly with aimee from @modernlyevents to create this custom build! she knew the vision and executed the event flawlessly. a huge thank you to you and your team!

i think i prefer this to engraving for a number of reasons. foiling is faster, cleaner, quieter. but guests were raving about their custom foiled luggage tags with exactly what they requested on it. this thoughtful and unique wedding favor was adored by guests of the bride and the groom. thank you again!

bach vibes on 10!!!! highly recommend a night full of dinner, sips, and games to get the vibes just right 🤍
we stayed in a suite on the thirteenth floor of @thesirenhotel - love this boutique hotel in the city. the girls met here to mingle before dinner at @sundanewasian , which was great - favorites include the miso cod!! and the element mocktail if you like pandan ✅
back at the hotel, the woman of the hour shared a few beautiful words before we played a fun panty game and then played more games to get to know the bride, including orchestrating a “what would the groom say?” game that involves getting his answers in advance. this was really cool though.
finished the night exploring, ended at @candybardetroit inside of the siren hotel, before hitting the hay.

i’ve had my co-maid of honor hat on lately and enjoyed adding these personal touches to my friend’s bachelorette celebration in detroit, michigan. these are a mix of vinyl and hand calligraphy work, because who doesn’t love seeing their name in pretty lettering? and because a lot of this was a surprise, i was able to kinda freestyle my own thing.

one of the best parts about these personalized luggage tags is: if you have a last minute table switch, it’s very easy to swap table number inserts! of course the inserts can be customized to your font preference.
you could certainly put a different note inside of the custom hot foil embossed luggage tag. perhaps a note, a coupon, a qr code for your business? maybe we can figure out a willy wonka game where whoever finds the golden ticket inside of a luggage tag gets a prize?!

one comment i consistently see on my posts or in my DMs is: “your work is so cleannnn” so here are some tips and tricks on how i execute a clean engraving during an in-store retail activation. this is just what works for me - i’m sure everyone has their own preferences and that’s the beauty of calligraphy engraving - every artist you meet will likely execute a different style than the next.
i will also say - these tips might not be applicable if let’s say you’re working a large volume event and you don’t even have time to draft out the request before engraving. that’s okay too! with how new this industry is, there are going to be a lot of learning moments. these moments will allow us to become better, faster, stronger. na na na that don’t k!ll me, can only make me stronger. props to you if you read to this point HAH

what a weekend - here’s everything i engraved for @diptyque on mother’s day as a calligraphy engraving artist! guests received a complimentary engraving with their fragrance or candle purchase.
the most common question i get is: “what message should i get engraved?” of course the beauty of hand engraving is being able to get whatever you want on there. but some things to remember when you’re receiving an on-site engraving:
🤍 there will likely be a limited character count (depending on the artist and the queue) to ensure as many guests can receive engravings as possible
🤍 the longer your request, the longer the engraving will take. this seems obvious, but the more letters there are, the more the artist has to balance the spacing, scale, and orientation of your phrase, so something to keep in mind if you’re in a rush
🤍 if you’re requesting a word in a completely different language - please understand artists will do their best to REPLICATE the reference they’re given. it is up to the artist’s discretion on accepting these types of requests.

i always enjoy coming in and engraving the sweetest messages for guests! and meeting some new faces. one comment i have heard a lot recently is how much people enjoy this service, as it brings a personal touch - when you get an item engraved, it shows that you didn’t simply grab it from the shelves, but that you took extra time to have that item personalized with them in mind, and i think that’s pretty special 🤍
also bless those folks who are genuinely impressed when they find out i’m free handing these bad boys. yes i create a draft first (by hand) just so i can be sure about scale, orientation, etc. but it’s all ME baby - so remember when you get something hand engraved, you are receiving an item that becomes one of a kind. AI fears me ahahaha (🫣)
