I don’t know why it took me so long to post this one - the biggest break through in my painting so far. Probably because I am still coming back to it.
Thank you for my amazing London crew and stepping forward to be part of this painting. I am so proud to carry on developing inclusivity in my work that is historically reserved for a few, “gifted” at birth, of what is considered to be “beautiful”.

Meet one of our 2025-2026 Chubb Fellows, Sierra Merda (@sierramerda ) ✨
Sierra Merda is a Lithuanian-born painter based in New York City. She recently presented her first solo exhibition in New York, and her work has been included in over 50 exhibitions across Europe and the United States, including the UK, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Rooted in London’s feminist punk and DIY underground scenes, she received her MFA in Painting (Anatomy Track) from the New York Academy of Art in 2025. She is the recipient of the Martha & Walter Erlebacher Award and the Chubb Fellowship (2025–2026), the Academy’s highest student honour. Her practice draws on her experience as a female navigating a world shaped by male-dominated histories and aesthetics. Working through a traditional painterly language, she explores and subverts classical ideals, merging historical iconography with the emotional complexity of contemporary life. Humour, vulnerability, and disruption are central to her approach to beauty and the body.
