Well here we are on part 3. I’d say I saved the best for last. “Unshaken” is a remarkable song. For anyone who has played Red Dead Redemption 2 you will certainly know this song. The way it comes in during the game and is used as a motif throughout the ending is unmatched. The only song that comes close to having as much of an impact in the series is during the ride to Mexico in the first game when “Far Away” by Jose Gonzalez plays.
“Unshaken” was written by @daniellanois /others and performed by @thedangelo . If you don’t know D’Angelo then you may have been living under a rock. He’s an incredible artist/musician and has one of the coolest voices out there. It’s honestly hilarious for me to attempt to sing a song he has performed. I knew I wanted to do this song on the project and wasn’t gonna do it if I couldn’t pull it off. So I tracked this one first. I think I did a pretty good job all things considered and am proud of this rendition.
This song means a whole lot to me. It genuinely helped me out through some hard times, as did Red Dead Redemption 2. The game couldn’t have come out at a more crucial time for me. In late 2018 my family had just gone through a deep tragedy. The loss had left me completely shattered, confused and lost. Playing the game helped me stay safe and calm down and begin to put the pieces back together. I would listen to “Unshaken” all the time in headphones throughout the next few months to go back to a place of peace. I realize this all might sound a little wild but it’s the truth. I’m actually probably under selling how much the game and this song affected my life. I hope some of that comes through when you give it a listen.

Part 2 coming at you! This song “Deadman’s Gun” was a stand out track on the original Red Dead Redemption soundtrack all those years ago. It came on recently while I was mowing the lawn and is what really made this little project of mine begin to take shape.
It was originally written and performed by the band Ashtar Command which consists of members @djchrisholmes and @brianliesegang . I don’t know much about these guys other than Christopher is a bad ass DJ preferred by Paul McCartney to open festival gigs and they make cool music. But I think the song speaks for itself. The themes obviously work in the red dead world but the resilient, punk nature of the lyrics work all the time.
Recording this song really reminded me of playing whatever instruments were around, unplugged with family and friends growing up. This whole project really but especially the stripped down nature of this track. It’s just acoustic guitar, cp70, and vocals. @soundofspace with the master again and this might be my favorite artwork @jesse.shoffstall made for this project!

Hi everyone I’m excited to share part 1 of this project I’ve been working on. I love the Red Dead Redemption series. The first game was my favorite video game for the longest time until the second game came out on October 26th 2018. I’ve beaten each of them with 100% completion multiple times 🤓. If there was still any disagreement on whether or not video games can be art, I think this series has well put it to rest. I don’t think it’s too much to say it’s some of the best modern storytelling, period.
A huge part of that story is told and enriched through the music in the games. No one contributed more to the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption 2 than @daniellanois . If you don’t know, Daniel Lanois is an accomplished Artists/Singer-Songwriter/Producer from Canada. He’s produced records for Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, Brandon Flowers, U2 etc…Everyone cool pretty much. He wrote and sang this first song “That’s the Way It Is” for the game and produced the soundtrack.
I really love this song and I hope that comes through my rendition. I didn’t change a whole lot. I did combine the arrangement on the soundtrack with a live version where Daniel was playing with a drum machine, but used real drums. Other than that it was more of recreation. But I think it has my flair and style as well. I one-man-banded it and produced it. @soundofspace mastered it for me. I hope you put on some decent headphones and give it a listen. Thanks!
