Echoes of the Past at the
@albanymuseum is a large-scale African art survey exhibition that revisits and reimagines historic presentations of African art while acknowledging the changes that have shaped the field. Featuring the AMA’s Sub-Saharan African Collection alongside works on loan from partnering institutions, including three works from our African Art collection, the exhibition invites moments of reflection on ritual, religion, tradition, community, and remembrance.
"Collaborating with our fellow Southern Institutions was very important to me for this exhibition. I appreciate the Michael C. Carlos Museum and their extensive African art collection. The 3 pieces that are currently on loan to the AMA come together with our permanent Sub-Saharan African Art Collection to create an overall narrative sharing the significance of the intention in contemporary African art research and scholarship." — Sidney Pettice, Exhibition Curator; Curator of African Collections and African Diasporic Art, Albany Museum of Art
