151 East 8th Avenue was a special building. It had an incredible ability to attract exceptional people who’ve contributed to the vibrant community of Mount Pleasant for over 100 years.
It’s housed a variety of dreams, ideas, businesses and tenants, each of whom have brought their own magic to one of Vancouvers oldest homes.
Two of the most recent tenants, Keith and Ruairi, were displaced by a devastating fire on March 24th. Being a space that exemplified Mount Pleasant, (eclectic, neighborly and old), the building had over the decades accumulated a multitude of small additions and as such “was not deemed worthy of rental insurance”. Ruairi and Keith were incredible regulars and support for Side Hustle. They became fast friends of everyone who came in- welcomed new folks with recommendations and a cheers. They kept an ear out overnight if there was trouble in the alley, if the ghosts were rattling glasses, and even made sure our staff made it safely to theirs cars at night.
They have been an important part of the community for almost a decade, and they need us.
