We are launching evening Music Theory classes at Side By Side Arts in 2024 and we are gathering interest! ✨To express an interest in finding out more email: [email protected] ✨ Music theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. It’s the grammar and syntax of the musical language. Just as understanding grammar can enhance our ability to communicate in a language, grasping music theory can deepen our appreciation and understanding of music. When studying music theory you will learning things like: 🎼Notes and scales: The basic building blocks of music. 🎼Rhythm and meter: The heartbeat and pulse of music. 🎼Melody and form: The tune you hum and the structure that holds a piece together. 🎼Chords and harmony: How notes come together to create the accompaniment to a melody, like the strumming of a guitar. And there are LOADS of benefits to studying Music Theory: 🎼If you’re an aspiring songwriter or composer, music theory is an essential toolbox – it will make the music you write better and equips you to communicate ideas, feelings, and instructions more effectively through your music to listeners, and to other musicians! 🎼 Allows musicians to recognise patterns in music and helps the student become fluent readers – this boosts confidence and opens up a whole new world of music. 🎼 Helps understand structure and form of music they’re performing and increases musicianship. 🎼 Improves improvisation through the study of harmony – this means broadened musical horizons, as musicians learn to seamlessly adapt to and navigate different styles of music. 🎼 It’s good for the brain and has lots of cognitive benefits – in a similar way to learning a language does.
