The Met Gala’s continuous celebration of Western celebrities in South Asian fashion begs one to question whether the fashion world’s most prestigious stage is a celebration of global culture or simply the latest repetition of the centuries-old tradition of taking from South Asia and claiming it as their own.

Colonialism in Fashion, The MET Gala Edition
The Met Gala is portrayed as the coming together of art, culture, and creativity, but beneath the extravagance lies a pattern that is hard to ignore: the use of Asian fashion in costumes, colonial-era artifacts as accessories, and the shutting out of the same communities whose heritage is on display. The Met Gala reflects the colonialist origins of the fashion industry.

The split between critics and audiences ultimately reflects two very different expectations of the film; Critics largely wanted a deeper examination of Michael Jackson’s controversies, while audiences were more interested in experiencing a concert-like spectacle that made him one of the biggest entertainers in history.

The “Michael” Biopic: How Jaafar Jackson Resurrected the King of Pop
The 2026 hit film, “Michael,” opened to a record-breaking $217 million globally during its opening weekend, making it the biggest biopic opening of all time (Cain, 2026). Long before audiences saw the recreated performances of “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” “Bad,” and “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough,” Jaafar Jackson spent years studying his uncle Michael Jackson for his debut role as the King of Pop. Jaafar, the son of Jermaine Jackson, was only 12 years old when Michael passed away. He rehearsed in Michael Jackson’s former bedroom at the Jackson family’s Hayvenhurst estate and set up a “research room”, turning to Michael’s personal writing, journals, poems, and affirmations (Thayer, 2026). He focused on capturing Michael’s movements, speaking voice, and stage presence with careful precision and trained with choreographers Rich and Tone Talauega, who had previously danced with Michael Jackson during the “HIStory World Tour” (Giacomazzo, 2026). Jaafar himself described rehearsing, “for hours upon hours upon hours until one single move was right – dancing until my feet would bleed or have them go numb,” (NME, 2026). “Michael” has created a huge divide between critics and audiences. What the two agree on is that Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of the King of Pop was stunningly accurate.

El Niño is a climatic weather pattern originating in the Pacific Ocean that affects weather conditions worldwide. This year, a strong effect of El Niño is predicted to hit Pakistan, resulting in intense heat waves and suppressed monsoon rains. Pakistan is already facing an increase of 2–4°C in its heat-prone regions of Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan, with temperatures predicted to reach up to 52°C during heatwaves. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), developing effects of the El Niño event have begun, with Super El Niño hitting Pakistan in August, and its effects persisting into early 2027.

HIV Positive Children in Punjab: How Budget Cuts Might Worsen the Epidemic (full article in post)
This is not a random epidemic, but a man-made public health failure driven by unsafe medical practices and the consistent overlooking of areas in South Punjab by its government.

TW: Graphic hospital scenes
On April 14th, a BBC Eye investigation exposed Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Taunsa in South Punjab for the reuse of syringes on children and the contamination of multi-dose vials, leading to an HIV epidemic. The staff at the hospital also failed to wear gloves and injected patients through their clothing. Between 2024 and 2025, 331 children tested positive in the city of Taunsa. Other provinces have also seen dramatic increases in cases. This outbreak is one of the fastest-growing epidemics in Asia.

Why Apple Weather Keeps Failing Pakistan
Like many other regions in Asia, Apple Weather is only equipped for general forecasting in Pakistan; severe weather alerts are sourced from national weather services. However, when “general forecasting” depicts clear skies on the day of an intense storm and only updates after it begins, it poses a safety hazard to citizens. On March 18th, disaster struck The Commons, a festival in Karachi, after an unexpected thunderstorm with winds in excess of 90kph demolished stalls, brought down trees, and left vendors panicked as they struggled to pack up and go home. As of early 2026, the country is experiencing severe climate disasters, with officials warning that this year’s monsoon could be 26% more intense than the previous year, threatening to exacerbate a series of deadly floods and heatwaves. So, why does Apple Weather fail in a place in dire need of accurate meteorology?

APS Peshawar Massacre:
TW - Mass Violence
On 16 December 2014, six heavily armed militants stormed the Army Public School in Peshawar, one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s history. They entered the school compound in the mid-morning, opened fire on students, teachers and staff, and held the building under siege for hours before security forces could neutralize them. Nearly 150 lives were lost, the majority of them were children.
Media outlets ran non-stop coverage showing frantic scenes of parents outside the school gates, rescue operations by the Special Services Group, and communities in deep grief.
In the aftermath, Pakistan reinstated the death penalty, launched military courts for terrorism cases, and adopted the National Action Plan (NAP) to strengthen counter-terror measures and protect schools and public spaces.
Every year, Pakistan observes this day with memorials, prayers, and official tributes to the martyrs. Today, on the 11th anniversary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed that the government is “united in its resolve to eradicate terrorism” (Dawn, 2025)
We remember the children, teachers and staff who lost their lives.
Their legacy lives forever.

Dr. Wardah Mushtaq disappeared on Dec. 4th, after leaving the hospital with her childhood friend Rida. Four days later her body was found from the forests of Thandiyani.
Rida, along with her husband and her guard, had hired a h*tman for PKR 3 million to m*rd*r Dr. Wardah.
Dr. Wardah had given Rida 67 tolas of gold when she was planning to move to Dubai. Rida avoided giving the gold back when she returned. Police revealed she had pawned it for PKR 5 million.
Doctors all over Abbottabad protested for a timely investigation on Dr. Wardah’s case.
