PREORDER ALERT! This one is for all the queers burned by religion along the road to self-affirmation and chosen family. But it’s also for ones didn’t make it; we publish this memoir in their honor. What Tried to Kill Me Had Many Names by Marc Gauss is a fearless memoir of spirit, sex, and survival. Raised in a strict Christian home where every desire was measured against sin, Gauss grew up believing that love—especially the kind he felt for other men—was something that had to be hidden, prayed away, or punished. As he moves from small-town boyhood to college campuses, locker rooms, churches, and the neon freedom of gay nightlife, Gauss confronts the contradictions between the life he was taught to live and the truth of who he is. Along the way he encounters cruelty, rejection, ecstatic freedom, and moments of devastating despair—including the kind of spiritual shame that nearly costs him his life. Told with disarming candor, humor, desire, and vulnerability, What Tried to Kill Me Had Many Names is the story of a man who survived religious judgment, sexual awakening, and the many identities others tried to force upon him. It is a memoir about reclaiming joy, owning one’s body, and learning—finally—to live without apology. Link in bio. #gay #queer #memoir #chosenfamily #lgbtq

Alex Gildzen’s Liszt & Other Lists (that’s not a typo) was published in 1976 in an edition of 100. Copies are in the research collections of University of Cambridge, Princeton and Archive for New Poetry at UC San Diego. Alex smartly squirreled away a private cache, and to observe the 50th anniversary of its publication he is releasing those copies to Sibling Rivalry Press as a special bonus for those who purchase A Litter of Lists - which reprints part of its content. We have SEVEN of these special copies left, and the next seven who pre-order will also get this special publication as a gift from @gildzen ❤️

PRE-ORDER ALERT! Link in bio. #Arkansas #Queer #Poet Series #4: D I Y Body by Toni Garcia-Butler. In D I Y BODY, Toni Garcia-Butler crafts a vibrant, defiant exploration of identity, inheritance, and self-making at the intersections of Black, Filipino, southern, and Trans/queer experience. Through poems that move between memory, performance, and everyday ritual, Garcia-Butler builds a body not given, but claimed piece by piece, voice by voice. These poems are alive with sound and movement: karaoke bars become sites of transformation, kitchens hold the ghosts of lineage and love, and mosh pits offer fleeting freedom from misrecognition. This chapbook is a proclamation of naming, desire, family, and belonging, an insistence on the right to define the self beyond expectation or constraint. In summary. It’s BADDASSSSSSSS.

NOW UP FOR PRE-ORDER and COMING IN JUNE! Gay Sex by @charlielouevans // DEBUT CHAPBOOK // Bob Hicok gave Charlie one of the best blurbs we’ve ever read: “I KNEW CHARLIE back when he was just a gleam, just a whisper in a body on the way to becoming a home. I’ve never known someone more hopeful or resilient, or more likely to find humor at the core of cruelty and darkness. His poems reflected this. They were large and rambling and generous, and always, no matter their subject, conveyed the force and intention of embrace. While still the case, the poems in Gay Sex are even more deeply celebratory, joyous, and loving, for Charlie is no longer unhoused in his own body. Charlie is now Charlie, and Charlie is now home.” Link in Bio!

Issue 28 of Assaracus: A Journal of Gay and Queer Poetry gathers a fierce group of poets whose work moves across memory, desire, and the unrelenting beauty of queer survival.
