I've been to several concerts that entertain, hell, I've been to some that even left me feeling deeply emotional, but nothing compares to what I've seen for the Lords of Acid. The first time I saw them about two years ago, I was very surprised by the amount of energy that was brought into the room. From the moment that the first crushing industrial beats echoed into the venue, the crowd roared alive with pure, ecstatic energy. And as even the night of the fifth rolled around with four opening acts, they did not hold back. Strobes flashed against latex and leather, against everyone for an unforgettablely sexy evening. The Lords of Acid didn’t just light up the night; they unleashed a blissful celebration that felt deeply human underneath all the chaos. It wasn't just the hypnotic basslines or the razor-sharp performance that set their set apart but it was the emotional current running throughout every song. Praga Khan's band carried decades of underground dance culture to Varsity Theater, making the show feel intimate. Even bringing along Butcher Babes' powerhouse vocalist Carla Harvey and the returning talents of DieTrich Thrall only made the night even more epic and fun. Between the pounding electronic grooves, something felt unexpectedly heartfelt: the band invited on Princess Superstar, and Tony and the Kiki to join in for a song as well. It was truly a kind reminder that their music creates strongest bonds with people they care about. This was no normal concert, it felt more like a massive fever dream. The Lords of Acid proved that after all these years, they remain masters of turning sensuality & industrial dance into something much more. The Twin Cities didn’t just witness a show; it witnessed a communion — loud, wild, emotional, and absolutely unforgettable, all at once. Thank you to everyone at Varsity Theater for hosting such a fabulous night; your staff have once again, been welcoming to all of the bands you've taken in. And thank you to all of the bands for allowing me to photograph your sets, and for DieTrich for allowing me to come in to do so. Dead On A Sunday had delivered an emotional, atmospheric energy to their set to Varsity Theater, seeing the time for an equally intimate and immersive experience. Combining a blend of darkwave with post punk vibes, the duo from Denver created a genuine connection with the audience that was more ethereal than the previous upbeat attitudes from Princess Superstar or Tony& The Kiki. Don't get me wrong, their music carried profound depth while still giving the crowd plenty of rhythm, accentuating the evening without ever losing their own identity. What made Dead On A Sunday must unique was their authenticity. letting the feeling and craftsmanship of the songs speak for themselves. It became very clear that many of the audience members at Varsity Theater had discovered a band they would continue swaying to long after the show ended. As the final act before Lords of Acid, they kept everyone grounded with hearts throbbing for more to an already unforgettable night. Thank you so much to these amazing guys for coming out to Minneapolis for the Cheeky Freaky Tour; may you all come back again real soon! Princess Superstar arrived onto Varsity Theater's stage with a performance that defined glitter-soaked fabulousness. With infectious energy and playful charisma, she electrified throughout her entire set. It became more than obvious that she wanted to bring the party into the Twin Cities with an equally wholesome sense of community beneath all the chaos and sparkle. With a marvelous blend of electro-pop, hip-hop, and tongue-in-cheek wit, Princess Superstar kept the audience constantly engaged, bouncing between laughter and dance. With her on the stage, it became clear that there was never a sense of distance between performer and audience. Even after her set, fans went to her, beaming with smiles all around. What made this performance especially memorable was how upbeat it all felt. This goddess from NYC brought over a fun experience for everyone to enjoy. The Varsity Theater ransformed into a space where self-expression felt completely limitless, and by the end of the night, the crowd remained even more energized for the next lineup, just in time for Dead On A Sunday and soon after, the superstars themselves, the Lords of Acid. The first time I've heard about Tony & the Kiki, I did not know what to expect. I was taken off guard to bear witness to what felt like the combo between the sass of Tina Turner, the poise of Freddie Mercury, and the androgynous charm of Michael Jackson and Prince rolled into one very talented individual. I was blown away when they had delivered a performance that was both absolutely fabulous and nostalgic. These queens from Queens created an atmosphere filled with joy, warmth, and exciting energy that drew the audience in. What truly made the evening unforgettable was the genuine connection that Tony and their partner Rodney (Kiki) brought to the stage. Every song felt alive, vibrant, and deeply engaging. The energy they brought left you smiling long after the final note. Both souls were not just talented performers; they were artists who created an experience that left an impact for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for giving me the privilege to capture your set, and I wish you both a very safe and fun remainder of your tour with the Lords of Acid. May you find your travels back into the Twin Cities again real soon. Much love! Tony & The Kiki (@tonyandthekiki ) Varsity Theater (@varsitytheater ) Minneapolis, MN, USA 5 May 2026

Something spicy this way comes, and her name is MZ NEON. Hailing in from LA, this baddie is taking the stage ablaze with risqué vibes and an avant-garde burlesque outfit just enough to crack a whip over. With songlistings that are both equal parts perverse and empowering, there is no doubt that this transwoman is proud to speak up on the Freaky Cheeky Tour with the headliner of the event, the Lords of Acid. I met with MZ NEON after her performance to express my appreciation and respect for her entertaining exhibition that evening. She had several people come up to her kiosk, many left with smiles as she would take her time with each visitor with genuine interaction, and I was no exception. We visited very briefly on how much energy she put on, even while wearing a corset that clunge to her waist into a much smaller frame. I had overheard her talk with one of her fans about how her song "It's A Long Way Down" inspired them to carry on after their time of grief. As we parted ways, we posed together for a quick selfie, embraced each other with a nice warm hug. MZ NEON, if you are reading this, may I wish you a very safe and fun remainder of your tour. Stay forever fabulous, and I hope to see you next time; cheers! MZ NEON (@mz_neon ) Varsity Theater (@varsitytheater ) Minneapolis, MN 5 May 2026
