Azi se deschide @edison.houseofmusic . Prietenii de acolo ne-au rugat să facem o selecție muzicală în ton cu spiritul locului. Au decorat frumos peretele cu această selecție pe care o veți putea asculta acolo pe vinil şi chiar lua acasă dacă vă place! What if “home” isn’t a place but a sound you recognize anywhere in the world?
🪕It started with a small record shop in Cluj, the kind of place you don’t just walk into by accident. @joy.laoun sat down with @shugard , founder of @melomelanj , to talk about something unexpected: the connection between manele and Arabic music.
What began as a simple conversation quickly turned into something deeper. Between customers walking in, records spinning, and stories being shared, a pattern emerged.
Different languages, different histories, yet the same emotions carried through sound. Voices that stretch and bend, rhythms that move the body instinctively, and lyrics rooted in love, longing, struggle, and pride.
For expats, that discovery feels personal. It is the realization that the music you grew up with does not stay behind. It finds you in new places, in different forms, sometimes when you least expect it.
A manele track can feel just as familiar as an Arabic melody, not because they are the same, but because they come from similar histories, shaped by movement, resilience, and cultural exchange.
What seemed like two separate worlds slowly revealed themselves to be deeply connected.🇷🇴🇱🇧🇸🇾🇵🇸🇯🇴🇹🇳🇪🇬🇮🇶🇲🇦
Because sometimes, home is not where you are from. It is what you recognize, instantly, without needing an explanation.

Blanilla is a Romanian DJ and producer with two decades of experience in the electronic music scene. Known for seamlessly blending breakbeat, UK Garage, 2-step, drum & bass, and house, he has played hundreds of gigs across Romania and beyond, from intimate club nights to massive festivals. Blanilla's productions have been released on iconic labels like Sound Of Habib, VIM Records, Ego Shot, and Distinctive Records. In 2015, his edit of Disclosure's "Defeated No More" earned a nomination for Best Free Track at the Breakspoll Awards.

Sugar (David Sugár) is an eclectic DJ and passionate music collector from Cluj-Napoca, known for his refined selections and story-driven sets. With a solid foundation in vinyl culture and a genuine love for grooves from around the world, Sugar blends soul, funk, jazz, disco, house, and experimental electronica in a unique and cohesive way. He has played in some of the most important venues and festivals in Romania and has shared the stage with top artists, both local and international. He is also involved in projects such as MeloMelanj record store, Scuzati Melanjul radio show on Black Rhino Radio and Melanj a trois on Radio Cluj.

D’ Jhu, alongside Eujah, is a founding member, of Genmaica Soundsystem, a collective and sound system known for pushing vibrant bass culture and Caribbean-influenced sound across dancefloors and communities. With deep roots in reggae, dub, jungle and global bass, D’Jhu brings an unmistakable energy to every session - whether behind the decks or curating the vibes behind the scenes.
Beyond the sound system scene, D’Jhu, is also one of the driving minds behind Melomelanj Record Store, which journey began in 2021 alongside Sugàr.
