Monday Morning Ambient with Patlabor

Angel Densetsu (エンジェル伝説) is a brilliant slice of life manga which received a two-episode OVA adaptation in 1996, produced by Toei Animation. Directed by Seiji Kishimoto, the anime covers the early chapters of Norihiro Yagi’s manga. The story centers on Seiichirō Kitano, a gentle and well meaning boy whose demonic face and unnerving presence make him the subject of fear and confusion at his new high school. Though Kitano only wants to make friends and help people, his terrifying looks lead others to mistake him for a violent delinquent or gang leader, sparking absurd and chaotic situations. Perfect.

Guyver: Out of Control (1986) Guyver: Out of Control is a dark sci-fi action OVA based on Yoshiki Takaya’s manga Bio Booster Armor Guyver. It follows high school student Sho Fukamachi, who accidentally discovers a mysterious alien device called the Unit. When activated, the Unit fuses with his body, transforming him into the bio boosted warrior Guyver, a powerful symbiotic armor with immense combat abilities. Sho is soon hunted by the sinister Chronos Corporation, a global conglomerate secretly ruled by shape-shifting superhuman creatures called Zoanoids, who seek to reclaim the Unit and control its power. As Sho struggles to understand his transformation, he must fight increasingly monstrous Zoanoid enemies while protecting his girlfriend, Mizuki, from Chronos’s grasp. Unlike later adaptations, Out of Control is a single, self-contained film, notable for its stylish 80s animation, body-horror elements, and a darker tone that emphasizes the tragedy of Sho’s bond with the alien armor. Hilarious tentacle scene and hilarious flanged voice effects.
