Anti-ICE Quebradita and Letter Writing to ICE detainees, with Irvin Gonzalez and Dignity Not Detention

Quebradita is a Mexican and Mexican American social dance form that first emerged in the 1990s and continues to be practiced today. Rooted in transborder belonging, working-class creativity, and resistance, quebradita has enabled minoritized communities to cultivate and sustain “alegría Mexicana” amid increasingly neoliberal conditions that displace and relocate working-class Mexican and Mexican American families. From its hybridization of Mexican and U.S. American footwork aesthetics to its acrobatic flips and tricks, quebradita remains a creative force for expressing and embracing transborder identities.

🌟 FINAL RESIDENCY AT LA PUENTE HS 🌟
Show Box L.A. is excited to welcome our final 2026 resident artist at La Puente HS Dance,
✨ Laroye Aña ✨
Laroye began her residency in January and briefly took a unique pause to focus on her performance in Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show. She returns this March to complete the creative process with the students, and the they are beyond excited to have her back in the studio. Her artistry, generosity, and real-world experience offer students a meaningful glimpse into what a life in dance can look like.
Laroye will be setting work at La Puente High School Dance Program, directed by the incredible Michelle Riggs. This residency is made possible through the support of Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. Their continued investment in arts education allows meaningful exchanges between students, educators, and working artists to exist.
We cannot wait to see the final piece come to life. Stay tuned as the process continues.
