Queens Lounge April lineup announced! On April 22nd, Michael Bester presents music from his debut album Now, not yet, inspired by his time in Spain and shaped by the tension between reality and aspiration. His compositions blend jazz, rock, folk and world influences, pairing rich harmonic ideas with clear, melodic writing.
A UCT graduate with a Master’s from Berklee (Valencia), Bester is a SAMRO Overseas Scholarship winner and former member of Mango Groove.
He is joined by a high class band featuring Buddy Wells (saxophone), Kingsley Buitendag (piano), Stephen de Souza (bass) and Damian Kamineth (drums).

The Rus Nerwich Quartet brings together four leading Cape Town jazz musicians for a dynamic live set. Featuring Rus Nerwich (saxophone), Nic Williams (piano), Kevin Gibson (drums), and Stephen de Sousa (bass), the band draws on a wide range of influences from hard bop to free jazz.
Nerwich has performed with top South African artists including Carlo Mombelli, Marcus Wyatt, Lulu Gontstana and Herbie Tsoaeli. Expect original material from albums like Mantras4ModernMan and The Wandering Who, alongside well-known standards such as Stella by Starlight and Peace.

Jazz at Queens, 8th April: The Dr Tete Mbambisa Sextet brings together a legendary pianist and a world-class lineup of South African musicians. Led by Tete Mbambisa, a pioneering composer and bandleader, the group features Esihle Valela (saxophone), Buddy Wells (saxophone), Keegan Steenkamp (trumpet), Nick Ford (bass), and Babes Ndamase (drums).
Mbambisa helped shape South African jazz from the 1960s, blending African traditional music with American jazz. His music served as both spiritual refuge and political voice, earning him an honorary doctorate from UCT.

The Jazz at Queens April line up has been announced! On April 1st, Babes Ndamase celebrates the birthday of Hugh Masekela with a special live performance led by his quintet. A master drummer with deep roots in Cape Town’s jazz and Afro-fusion scene, Ndamase is known for his strong feel, musical sensitivity, and dynamic live presence.
Joining him are Nick Ford (bass), Buddy Wells (saxophone), Esihle Valela (saxophone), and Vusi Maseko (piano).
Expect a high class band paying tribute to one of South Africa’s greatest musical icons in an intimate listening environment.
