Weeks posts
It's been an absolutely mad few weeks! Book: LAUNCHED ❤️ in London AND in Newcastle, plus I was invited to go on Radio 4's The Verb and hurried down to Manchester to record! The response to the book has been absolutely incredible, and I'm so, so greatful for the way in which everyone has opened their hearts and brains to this worm. Especially since she's parasitic. ❤️ Huge thank you to @thatmoonpoet for reading at both launches, as well as @mollymoon28_ and @timothy_fox_ for supporting in Newcastle and London respectively, as well as 1b Books and The Common Press.

Hey so it turns out if you perform poems from folkish in the right way, the braag shows up to walk three paces behind you and whisper terrible ideas.

Another May Day another sunrise outing. The one day a year where I willingly get out of bed. This year we found clover, Caoimh a four leaf, and me (the over achiever) found a five. Our faces are annointed, the coffee is on the stove. Happy May Day!

A very real and completely unprepared unboxing video for my debut collection, Folkish published by @ninearchespress , which is just about the only thing that'll get me in front of a camera to record video. Special thanks to my co-host, David!

We have another glorious launch event for you all in May, when we're delighted to be hosting Kym Deyn. We’ll be up to our usual antics at @poprecs on Thursday, 14th May. Doors open at 6pm; open mic starts at 7pm. @mintwilko will have our sturdy sign-up sheet, while @thatjameswhitman will be wielding his fluffy shotgun mic at people for our podcast. Kym Deyn is a poet and weird fiction writer who runs The Braag CIC, a micro-press based in Newcastle. Their debut poetry collection Folkish was published by Nine Arches, and their work has appeared in all the cool poetry places, including Butcher’s Dog, Oxford Poetry, 14 Poems and Strange Horizons. As always, our spoken word night is FREE. But... if you’ve got some spare pound coins, you could always pop them in the Pop Recs tip jar. See you all there! ----- #PoetryNight #OpenMicNight #SpokenWord #Sunderland #SunnisideSunderland

On May 19th, I'm coming back to Durham to discuss all things folklore and writing with my good friend Nathaniel, editor of the brand new Carnyx Press, in the run-up to releasing their first anthology. This event is kindly hosted by The North East Folklore Society and the People's bookshop. Ticket link is in bio!

Happy Sunday! Let’s highlight another creative ✨ @shortestwitch is a poet and writer focusing on different magics, the gaps in history and myth, time, grief and post-industrial landscapes. They are also the director and editor of The Braag CIC, a poetry and speculative fiction small press that works with writers across the globe as well as supporting emerging authors in the North East of England. We had the chance to chat to Kym about their influences, how folklore weaves into their poetry, the beauty of collaboration and how they can reconnect with their landscape through their work. Check out the full interview over on our website (link in bio!). And if you’d like to be featured, you can also do that through the link in our bio🫶🏻 #folk #folkcommunity #community #poet #writer
