There’s a lot of new faces around here lately, so we wanted to take this opportunity to share the story of makers 😁
Starting a new business is a wild undertaking, and there’s a lot of challenges you’ll inevitably experience along the way - but it’s also one of the most rewarding and joyous experiences!
When reflecting on the story of makers, we can honestly say it’s a story about community. The people along the way. Our community is filled with incredible staff, artisans, and team members that are all passionate about the same goal: helping small local businesses thrive. When you work together collectively towards a goal like this, its positive impact is even bigger than we can possibly see 🫶
So thank you! Thank you to everyone who’s a part of this community - shoppers, artists and team members alike. Makers is only able to exist because of people like you🥰
Some news from where it all began 💛🥹
At the end of May, our Gastown store will be moving to a NEW home just down the road at 139 Water St.
What started in 2020 as a tiny 3-month pop-up in the middle of the world shutting down, built by our co-founders Adam & Veronica as a small but mighty team of two, became something so much bigger than we ever could have imagined. That little store became the foundation for everything Makers is today.
Gastown was our very first location, and truly the community that believed in us first. The support from this neighbourhood, from our vendors, customers, friends, and every person who walked through those doors, helped shape Makers into what it is now. Thank you to every vendor who took the risk with us in those early days. Without Gastown, there is no Makers story.
Now, almost 6 whole years later, we’re so excited to be moving into a bigger and better flagship space, while still staying rooted in the neighbourhood that started it all. Here’s to taking those risks, because you never know where they will lead you!
You can still visit our current Gastown location until May 24th, and we’ll be sharing more opening updates for the new space very soon because trust us… this one is going to be special ✨

At Makers, our mission has always been to create more opportunities for small businesses to be seen, supported, and celebrated. Every new store is another chance for local artisans to connect with their community and grow something sustainable.
Since the beginning of 2026, Makers has generated almost $1,000,000 in sales for small artisan businesses in Calgary alone, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of a city that continues to show up for locals in such a meaningful way.
