Oh hey...guess it's time to do one of these 🫣 I’m Jen → brand designer, photographer, website builder, and unapologetic night owl behind Shift+Click Studio, where strategy meets aesthetics (and the right shortcut doesn’t cut corners šŸ˜‰). Tuesday, hallelujah. ā˜”ļø šŸ’» šŸ™Œ With less than 10 days of preschool left—forever ever!!šŸ’øā€”and we start our first ā€œBig Kid Summerā€ Lite (before middle schooler is out), you can find me balancing kid-free-self-care activities (coffee with friends, @bloommindbodyco_ballwin appointments, hikes/walks that aren’t in my neighborhood) with the gloriousness that is a quiet house, where I can take a call from the main level at any point (except during a šŸŒŖļø warning) and eat lunch at 2pm. And I will romanticize this kind of day every. single. time. I’m soooo looking forward to putting my business in Summer Modeā„¢ļø (registered to the one and only @hellococreative ) and limiting my project capacity intentionally in the name of an analog summer experience with my kids (and the best experience for my clients!), but you best believe I’m maxing out my autonomy while I still have it šŸ˜‰

Client: ā€œWe want to create a fundraiser cookbook with community recipes and rely heavily on years of event photos instead of food photography…oh, and a tight budget.ā€ Me: [cracks knuckles, opens InDesign like coming home after a long day.] LET’S GO! The challenge wasn’t just to make 144 pages of recipes look good. It was knowing the story behind the images, the people in them, and how to make it all feel cohesive and intentional…even without a library of styled food photography. But I had a cheat code: I’ve shot this event every year since 2019 šŸ“· So I wasn’t digging through a folder of unfamiliar images…I was building from actual memories, familiar context, and a catalog I already knew inside and out. (Even better, my worlds collided when some submitters used brand photos I’d taken šŸ˜) And when you’re working with this much content, the tools absolutely matter. Parent pages, character styles, paragraph styles—systems that make it faster, cleaner, and consistent at scale. (Take my money, Adobe šŸ™„) And judging by the fact they’re already considering a reorder less than a week after pre-orders arrived…safe to say it did exactly what it was supposed to do 🩵 Bonus: I wasn’t able to use the brand’s logo or official elements…but I bet you can still tell who it’s for. It’s PROJECT PRINT DAY!! In my MizzouRec days, this always meant a team dance party in the hall…today I was just happy to not have an anticlimactic solo send-off from my house. 🤣 I’m no stranger to multi-page layouts (many magazine publications and a few book designs) and InDesign *miiiight* be my favorite @adobe software, but this was my first cookbook. One thing this project reinforced: the tools *really* matter. For something this detailed and content-heavy, InDesign made the process faster, more consistent, and waaaay more scalable. (Master pages, character and paragraph styles…say less!) Canva is great for a lot of things (and I use it daily to equip my clients to use their brand assets well!) but for a project like this, having the right system made all the difference. We are LIVE!! Introducing the new version of Tristan Singleton Photography✨ I’m diving head first into this calling as a family photographer and it’s about time my brand aligned with it.
