I’m not even sure how to caption this so I’m just gonna go.
June 3rd, 3 days after meeting Taraji P. Henson( one of the best days of my life), I was prepared to share with all my colleagues the natural high I was on from the weekend. When I entered the building that morning I felt a different energy in the building. Teachers were crying, nobody really speaking. It was later on that day where we all would find out, that one of our favorite students had passed away over the weekend.
If you’ve ever worked with kids, you know how they slowly become ingrained into your life. You go home thinking about them, you can’t hear a certain song without it reminding you of them. We don’t always realize it as educators, but we spend more time with these kids than we do with a lot of our family.
Amara was so special man. She was super sassy. She was smart. She stood up for her friends. She was super intuitive and she matured so much.
Her classmates and I came together and designed our very own “Amara Shift Backpack”. Her favorite colors were pink and purple. I got the opportunity last week to share a special moment with Amara’s mom, gifting her with the 1st Amara Shift Backpack and she added it right to Amara’s wall.

There’s been so much hype about our moment with Taraji P. Henson that I haven’t had the chance to acknowledge the legend @mrjasonowilson .
I met Mr. Wilson on the first day of the @blhensonfoundation Can We Talk Symposium. I was nervous because I admired his work and, to be honest, was a bit of a fan. From the moment we started talking, it was clear that he was a genuinely sincere person.
I gave him one of our backpacks, and he genuinely loved it! He was enthusiastic about the brand, the concept, and everything we represent.
