Hi Insta fam, the word is out… I’ve been named Rotterdam’s first City Choreographer! Still letting that sink in. For the next two years, I will serve as Stadschoreograaf 2026–2028, a new role initiated by @danshuisrotterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam to give dance a prominent and visible place in the life of this city. To be the first to step into this role feels both grounding and massive. Rotterdam raised me. Rotterdam shaped me. And now I get to move with the city in a new way. Over the coming year, I will work with Rotterdam based dancers to create a new city choreography inspired by what lives and breathes here. The people. The tensions. The beauty. The stories carried in our bodies. From there this work will continue to travel through Rotterdam as a living cultural moment. But this role is bigger than this choreography. I see it as my responsibility to contribute to the wider dance ecology of the city. I will be creating programs, building connections, and working on initiatives that strengthen dance in Rotterdam. Some behind the scenes shots of our rehearsals! It was always a vibe with my team! So much fun, but also hard work. We train, we dance, we laugh but 1 thing’s for sure, we work hard and dive deep into the layers of ourselves to be able to share our most vulnerable selves. That’s when it gets real. To share that on stage and then hear that the piece and the dancers touched people’s hearts, is honestly the biggest compliment. Using art as a way to move, connect, and create change is what I’m all about. I gained two brothers in this process. @yashasvi.shrotriya @_beefdaddy_ thank you for trusting me and diving deep with me. @mainonthegram thank you for being right there with us and speaking life into us. Sheree Lentings SONS OF THE SOIL is on tour across the Netherlands until November 15 as part of DANSLOKAAL 13. In the duet SONS OF THE SOIL with dancers Gaspar Ribeiro and Yashasvi Shrotriya, @shereelenting focuses on brotherhood, masculinity, vulnerability, and resilience against the backdrop of our colonial past. Dancer in DANSLOKAAL 13: Gaspar Ribeiro ✨ A duet together with @yashasvi.shrotriya ! In this edition of DANSLOKAAL Gaspar is part of the choreography by @shereelenting (Dansateliers) in which two young men take us on a journey into adulthood. “We share a lot of laughter during rehearsals. I would say the funniest moments were when the three of us would just try and figure things out, hyping each other up in the process.
