On Tuesday during our lunch hour, we were joined by a special volunteer, Ms. Pauline, who provided voter registration materials to our staff and meal guests. 🗳️ At Shepherd’s Table, we believe every voice deserves to be heard and that voting matters for everyone. Thank you, Ms. Pauline, for continuing to show up for our community in such a meaningful way. Get out there and vote! That’s a wrap! 🌸 We are still beaming from Wednesday night’s fundraising event, A Table in Bloom: Shepherd’s Table Spring Soirée. It was an incredible evening of community, connection, inspiring stories, and delicious food, all in support of Shepherd’s Table’s mission. From Chef Christina Moore’s hot sauce demo with a twist, to powerful stories from Culinary Skills Training students Christine and Robert alongside Chef Terrell, to a fun performance by “No Cellphones in the Bedroom,” you could feel the sense of community and warmth throughout the evening. The big win of the night was that together, we raised more than $140,000 toward our $150,000 campaign goal 🎉 Thanks to your generosity and support, we can continue improving quality of life, creating pathways toward lasting well-being, and inspiring hope for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, bid in the auction, or helped spread the word. You make our community bloom 🌸 To see the full event gallery, please visit our website and click on the latest blog: A Table in Bloom 2026: Shepherd’s Table Spring Soirée in Photos #ATableInBloom #fundraiser #donate #volunteer #community

We want to take a moment to thank all our wonderful corporate sponsors of next Wednesday’s fundraising event, A Table in Bloom- Shepherd’s Table Spring Soirée. A special thank you to our Daffodil Sponsor, Warner Bros. Discovery! With your support, we're able to support individuals through our Daily Meals program and comprehensive wraparound services, including our Resource Center, Clothing Closet, Eye Clinic, and Culinary Skills Training Program. This year, we have already served and supported over 800 individuals, and we hope to help even more neighbors in need. Our mission over the last 42 years has remained to improve the quality of life and help create pathways to lasting well-being, and we will continue to stand with those in need for as long as we are needed.

To close out Volunteer Appreciation week, we want to recognize and thank a group that has been showing up with consistency, care, and community spirit: Sufi House (Nimatullahi Sufi Order). Sufi House is part of a spiritual community rooted in cultivating love, service, and a sense of oneness with all existence. Guided by the belief that service is central to their path, their members have supported community organizations across the Washington, DC area for years. Our partnership with them started in the summer of 2024, although many members had already volunteered with us in the past. Today, their service committee comes once a month, bringing dinner that they prepared and serving it to our meal guests. What stands out most is the way they show up during service, not just to serve food, but to connect. Members of this group make it a point to have conversations with our meal guests, asking them about their day, what they thought of the food, etc. These small exchanges are what make the experience meaningful on both sides of the serving line. As one volunteer shared, “our aim is not just to provide food but to make connections and to remind ourselves and others that we are all part of Human community and we need each other to make the most out of the experience of life.” We are grateful for Sufi House and their continued presence, care, and commitment to service. #thankyou #volunteerappreciation #sufihouse #giveback #commnunity

This Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to highlight two special individuals who we are lucky to have as a part of our community. John and Barbara have dedicated their time every Thursday afternoon, bringing warmth, presence, and steady compassion to the Shepherd’s Table Resource Center. They began volunteering earlier this year, but their commitment runs deep. Shaped by years of small acts of service, from helping their daughter assemble sandwiches for their church to donate to Shepherd’s Table to distributing warm meals to those in need during the holidays. These two experiences sparked something in them. An urge to invest their time where compassion meets action. “We knew this was the kind of place we wanted to invest in”, John shared. One moment left a lasting imprint on them was distribution day at the end of hypothermia season, when many clients were preparing to sleep outside again. John and Barbara guided each person through choosing luggage, backpacks, and blankets, items that would hold everything they had. Seeing guests weigh what they could physically carry, especially those with disabilities moved them deeply. “It stays with you,” Barbara said. “You realize what you take for granted.” For John and Barbara, it’s about dignity—greeting every person with respect, listening closely, and making sure people feel seen. After the loss of their son, they also feel a deep connection to the young men they often encounter, and a desire to show up for people who may feel overlooked or alone. When asked why someone should volunteer at Shepherd’s Table, John had a simple response. “Once you walk through the door the first time, the hardest part is behind you.” #volunteerappreciationweek #volunteer #giveback #community #weloveourvolunteers #thankyou

We’re in the middle of our spring fundraising campaign, leading up to Spring Soirée: A Table in Bloom at the Great Hall in the Silver Spring Civic Building. It’s an evening of great food, music, dancing, and meaningful conversation about how we support neighbors experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. This year, we’re working toward an ambitious goal of $150,000. In 2025 alone, we served more than 160,000 meals—and the need continues to grow. Your support matters now more than ever. Here’s how you can be part of it: o Join us on May 6—purchase tickets or sponsor a table o Bid in our online auction (live now!)—featuring trips, event tickets, and a private catered dinner o Make a donation to support our spring fundraiser (Click the link in our bio to find the Table in Bloom event page) Every action helps us not only provide meals but walk alongside our neighbors on their journey. #SpringSoiree #ATableInBloom #EndHunger #CommunityCare

Happy Earth Day 🌎 Today, we’re reflecting on the ways we care for our planet through sustainability, especially in our kitchen. At Shepherd’s Table, reducing food waste is part of our everyday work. Our talented chefs transform leftovers into new, delicious meals, making sure nothing goes to waste. We also turn donated ingredients into nourishing dishes, giving every item a purpose. Through partnerships with fellow nonprofits, we participate in food rescue efforts to keep good food out of landfills and on the plates of those who need it most. And behind the scenes, we compost daily to further reduce our environmental impact. Small actions add up. Together, we’re building a more sustainable future one day and one meal at a time. #earthday #sustainable #compost #foodrescue #nowaste #endhunger #foodinsecurity

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! Since our humble beginnings in a house on Bonifant Street in 1983 to serving over 2 million meals, none of this would be possible without our volunteers 🤍 Through snowstorms, a global pandemic, and government shutdowns, we have never missed a single day of meal service and that is because of you. #volunteerappreciation #volunteer #nonprofit #community #giveback

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! 💞 Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Because of you, we served over 163,000 meals at Progress Place and supported more than 2,000 individuals through our Resource Center last year. Your time, energy, and care make a difference every single day for our neighbors in need. To say thank you, we’ve set up a table in the Volunteer Lounge with fresh treats all week and a special Shepherd’s Table mug featuring our new logo for you to take home. We hope this small gesture shows how much you’re appreciated. We don’t just celebrate you this week or this month, we’re grateful for you every day. #volunteerappreciation #thankyou #nonprofit #foodinsecurity #housinginsecurity
