My newest piece, "entrelazados" contains poetry, dance, and a heartfelt lullabye that has been passed through generations. This piece was a meditation on the intersection of my father's story, my abuela's story, and my story. I interviewed my father and our conversations uncovered stories of grief, abuse, survival, and deep deep love that have echoed throughout time. Though inspired by specific autobiographical events, this piece created more questions I want to explore in my next project like: ✨️What is it like to both belong and not belong? ✨️ How do we make a home for ourselves when no one else has? ✨️ How do we grieve what we first thought was home? When she returns I remember the bittersweet graduations, baby's first (closeted) pride, nights spent crying in a parking lot, sunsets and cherry blossoms, heartbreak, 2 car accidents, and my first guest residency at my alma matter. Spring reminds me that I'm in love with Change as much as I am with Consistency. 🥽 LabWorks Artist Announcement 🥽 We’re excited to welcome back The Click’s Community Contemporary ensemble, led by Angie Benitez! Angie is inspired by play, poetry, queerness, engaging the senses, and her nonbinary, biracial life experience. They are a dedicated teaching artist to movers of all ages and experiences; from toddlers, to families, to professionals, to seniors. This 2025 Next Steps for Boston Dance grantee graduated from Salem State with a B.A in Modern/Contemporary Dance and has returned there as a guest artist in residence. She is a company member of Human Movement Project, vital team member at High Street Studios in Ipswich, and a co-founding member of a contemporary dance collective, The Click, and recently, a teacher for TransDans.
