🐋 The countdown is on… Shellharbour Wild Whale Watching launches this Saturday 16 May and cruises through to mid November.
Each season, approximately 50,000 humpback whales migrate from the icy waters of Antarctica to warmer breeding grounds, creating one of the greatest marine migrations on the planet.
Join us aboard Shellharbour Wild for an unforgettable adventure on the famous Humpback Highway as we witness these magnificent marine mammals in the wild.
Be part of citizen science, help protect our whales, and download the Happywhale app to identify and track humpbacks throughout the migration.

Tracking a Mother & Calf – From Shellharbour to Jervis Bay
Last weekend brought an amazing discovery along the East Coast migration!
While working as Deckhand aboard Shellharbour Wild, Scott Sheen from @marinemammalresearch photographed a mother and calf pair just off Bass Point Reserve on Saturday. Less than 20 hours later — after driving back home to Jervis Bay — Scott and the @sea.jervisbay and @annieswhalewatching team re-sighted the same pair at Crocodile Head, Beecroft Peninsula.
This incredible journey shows the coastal connection between our two regions — the whales travelled 30 nautical miles (56 km) in 19 hours and 44 minutes, averaging 1.52 knots, possibly stopping to rest along the way.
Identified solely by dorsal fin and body markings (no fluke visible!), this resighting adds valuable data to ongoing research into whale movements along the inshore migration corridor.
It’s a wonderful reminder that collaboration between operators like Shellharbour Wild, Jervis Bay Wild, and Marine Mammal Research Jervis Bay helps us all better understand and educate us all and protect these magnificent ocean travellers.💙🐋🐳
