WELL, IT'S EPISODE 3 AND WE ARE NOT OKAY š
For those who are new here, we're the marketing team at She Grows Veg and we thought we'd give gardening a go... Turns out it's harder than it looks.
This episode we forcibly separated two seedlings in a loving embrace, asked Siri questions she was not prepared to answer, and decided that lying face down on the ground was a completely valid gardening technique.
We think everything is dead, but maybe it will perk up.

Drought survival 101
Your soil might look like cracked pavement, but hot weather doesn't have to mean a dead patch.
Here's what actually works:
Start with mulch. It's the simplest thing you can do and genuinely the most effective. A good layer on top of your beds keeps moisture exactly where it needs to be.
Swap plastic pots for wool pots. They breathe, regulate heat and retain water in a way no plastic pot comes close to.
Water in the evening when things have cooled down a little - your plants will thank you for it.
And choose your crops wisely. Lettuce White Boston and Mizuna Hot Stuff are both made for the heat; they'll keep going even if everything else in the patch has given up.
Everything you need is available from the She Grows Veg store; linked in stories š
Turns out peacocks love heirloom veg just as much as we do š¦
We inherited a flock with our walled trial garden - they're beautiful, chaotic and seemingly peckish!
Watch us build our new garden cage from @gardeningnaturally . The veg is finally safe and the peacocks can roam in peace.
Order is restored š±
Ever tried the three sisters? š±
If you're late to the party, it's a planting technique that's been used for thousands of years, and we think every gardener should try it at least once.
The idea is simple: to grow sweetcorn, climbing beans and squash together in the same bed. The corn grows tall and acts as a natural pole for the beans to climb. The beans fix nitrogen in the soil, feeding everything around them. The squash sprawls low, its big leaves keeping the ground cool and the weeds down. Three plants, three jobs, zero wasted space.
For a brilliant three sisters combo, we'd go with:
š½ Sweetcorn Golden Bantam (productive, reliable, genuinely sweet).
š« French Bean Carminat (gorgeous purple pods, prolific, and it actually tastes as good as it looks)
šÆ Butternut Squash Honeynut (a compact, intensely flavoured butternut that won't take over your entire plot).
Start your corn first, it needs a head start, then plant your beans and squash once it's a few inches tall. Give them space, give them sun, and let them get on with it.
We've linked our blog in the bio so you can find out more about three sisters, and get your hands on the seeds!
This one hasn't forgotten where it came from...
Wild Tomato Red Currant is one of the most closely related varieties to the original wild tomato, and it acts like it.
No pruning. No fussing. Just sprawling growth and a relentless supply of tiny, jewel-like fruit with an intensely sweet, tart flavour.
Early to ripen. Produces all season. Looks incredible tumbling out of a bowl or straight off the plant.
Sowing window: Feb to May

Our favourite time of day, every day.
The morning water.
Before the traffic, emails, and to-do lists. Before you've even woken up properly. The world is still quiet, except for birdsong and the soft sound of water meeting soil. We love the quiet satisfaction of nurturing something that's counting on you.
Spring doesn't rush, maybe we shouldn't either š±
Your Summer harvesting checklist āļø
š§ A water bottle to keep your water cold all day (or your tea hot, if that's your vibe)
š§¢ A cap for those sunny allotment days when you "just popped in to check on things" and somehow lost five hours āļø
š§ŗ A trug big enough for whatever the garden decides to throw at you all at once
Because nothing derails a harvest like realising you're underprepared, sunburnt, and carrying everything in your jumper.
