This morning we hosted more than 1,400 4th graders from across Sheboygan County to learn about the musical instrument families, play along with the orchestra on their recorders, and sing and dance to classical pieces like Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz and Bizet’s Toreador from Carmen. Thank you to the music educators who prepared students for the experience. What an enthusiastic and appreciative audience! #carnegiehall #linkup #partnership
A big thank you to Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi and all of the musicians who shared their extraordinary talents last night. The audience’s standing ovation at the conclusion of Symphonie Fantastique’s climatic finale said it all! #classicalmasterpiece #symphoniefantastique #symphoniefantastiqueberlioz

Hear the Hansel and Gretel Overture by Engelbert Humperdinck and Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz, featuring a unique recurring theme called an idée fixe. The composer uses it to symbolize his romantic obsession with actress Harriet Smithson and was arguably the first composer to pioneer this artistic technique that is still used today in film, television, and video game music. #classicalmusic #SymphonieFantastique
Meet one of Western music’s oldest motifs, an eerie chant-like melody called the Dies Irae.
It began as a 13th‑century Gregorian chant used in the Requiem Mass, a musical depiction of Judgment Day. For centuries, composers use it to evoke the supernatural, macabre, or mysterious.
In Symphonie Fantastique, Hector Berlioz takes it to another level—twisting the ancient chant into something wild, vivid, and unforgettable as his hero spirals into a fever dream of witches, visions, and dark imagination. It’s one of the most iconic musical moments in all Romantic music.
If you haven’t secured your seats, don't miss out. Hear this legendary motif—and the entire Symphonie Fantastique—come alive in Sheboygan's historic Stefanie H. Weill Center on Saturday, March 7.

Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique is one of the earliest works to treat the orchestra as a vehicle for storytelling — an obsession traced across five movements, from initial longing spiraling deep into hallucination and despair.
