This season I’ve been taking some notes. Here are some tips I’ve come up with from a hair and makeup artist’s perspective. ⭐️ Steam everything the day before OR before your hair and makeup is finished. Steam will ruin your hair once it’s complete. We don’t book extra time to fix, re-curl or re-style. ⭐️ Always arrive on time and with CLEAN DRY hair. We know, we know but dirty hair style better…no it doesn’t. We also don’t schedule in blow dry time on wedding days. ⭐️ Bring inspo pictures with the same color hair as you. You see texture, braids, etc. differently on different hair colors. ⭐️ Stay hydrated and eat! You don’t have to eat much but eat light. Also only eat things you normally eat. Don’t try something new or eat outside of your normal eating habits. ⭐️ Finally, TRUST YOUR HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST. You hired us for a reason. This year I’m celebrating 20 years behind the chair! I literally can’t believe it. Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their hair, their secrets and lord knows what else I have witnessed, seen and heard. Here are a few things I have learned. ⭐️ 20 years in and I still love what I do. Honestly I don’t know what else I would do. ⭐️They are your clients girl…take them. Email, text, friend on Facebook. You built the relationship not your salon/salon owner. ⭐️This industry isn’t for the weak…you learn how to have tough skin from the start…if not you can get eaten alive. ⭐️Hustle! Put in the long hours do the hard work. ⭐️Stay true to you and what you believe. You are creating your legacy. ⭐️Work life balance doesn’t always exist when you are a business owner. The days are long and the emails are non stop. ⭐️Not everyone will love me and my work and that’s ok. ⭐️Don’t let anyone tell you “You’re just a hairdresser.” You change peoples lives everyday. You are also in one of the highest paying professions on the planet. 😘 ⭐️Boundaries are important. I’ve been asked by family, friends, and even strangers to do hair for free—but this isn’t a hobby, it’s my profession. Please respect that. ⭐️I have had the pleasure of styling over 400 brides and their bridal parties. When I say I love what I do I really mean it.
