In 2020, the Bamyan Buddha was projected in a bright orange glow, a powerful symbol of our collective hope to end violence against women. It felt meaningful because it came from the people’s genuine desire for change.
Today, the reality is painfully different. Afghanistan has become one of the hardest places in the world for women and girls.
As we mark this moment, I ask you to stand in solidarity with Afghan women and continue raising your voice to end violence against women everywhere. Their struggle deserves our support, and their courage deserves to be seen.
