A written passage from my poetry book. Should I release it? There is something about standing in the middle of all that gold and realizing you were never searching for it. You were it. You have always been it. And maybe you forgot for a while. Maybe the world got loud and you got quiet and somewhere in between you started believing that shrinking was the same thing as surviving. But it wasn’t. It was never that. It was just fear dressed up in good manners. It was just you, convincing yourself that taking up less space would somehow make the journey easier. But here’s what nobody tells you about the desert. It doesn’t reward smallness. It swallows it. The desert only recognizes what refuses to disappear. And you, standing there with the sun pressed against your skin like a blessing you didn’t ask for but always deserved, you are not disappearing. Not anymore. Not ever again. You have spent too many seasons pouring yourself into places that couldn’t hold you. Too many years softening your voice so other people could feel comfortable in rooms you were meant to command. And now something in you has shifted. Not loudly. Not with an announcement or a performance. Just a quiet, bone-deep knowing that this chapter doesn’t belong to the version of you who asked for permission. This one belongs to the woman who stopped waiting. The one who looked at herself, really looked, and didn’t flinch. The one who chose her own reflection over every mirror the world tried to hand her. And if they ask you what changed, you don’t owe them an answer. Because the truth is, nothing changed. A teary moment for me listening to my son’s voice note wishes for me. I love you Ayaah, my wise sage. This is the reason I’m here. A love letter from Paris.. Paris feels like a love letter written to the parts of me that live for the belief in art. I spent the day getting lost between poetry, old pages, and stories that have survived generations inside my favorite bookstore in the world. There’s something about this city that makes romance feel real again. Like life is supposed to be slower here. More intentional. More beautiful. Everything in the direction of art and love. I’m in Paris working on something special right now (maybe my books releasing?) and I can feel pieces of myself coming back online being here. The artist. The dreamer. The girl who still romanticizes bookstores and handwritten notes and conversations that actually mean something. Read books. Please. The world feels emotionally and intellectually starved lately. Everyone consumes content all day but so few people sit still long enough to truly feel, imagine, question, expand. Books give your soul language. They give you depth. Maybe that’s why bookstores still feel sacred to me. They remind me there’s still magic left in the world. Art. Poetry. Travel. Romance. That’s the frequency. Continued passage from my poetry pages.. You don’t owe anyone the story of how you got here. You don’t owe them the messy parts or the quiet nights or the versions of yourself you had to bury just to keep going. You owe them nothing. And maybe that’s the part that scares you. Because for so long, you measured your worth by how much of yourself you were willing to give away. How much you could bend before you broke. How gracefully you could fall apart and still show up the next morning like nothing happened. But the desert doesn’t care about any of that. The desert only knows one truth. You are either here or you are not. And you are here. Not the watered down version. Not the one who smiles when she wants to scream. Not the one who makes herself palatable so the room doesn’t shift when she walks in. The real one. The one that terrifies you a little. The one whose power you have been tiptoeing around your entire life because nobody taught you what to do with a fire that big. But you know now. You feel it in the way the light hits your skin and doesn’t ask you to dim. You feel it in the silence between breaths where something ancient whispers your name and tells you it has been waiting. And I think that’s why I fell in love with the desert. Because it doesn’t perform. It doesn’t soften itself for you. It just exists, enormous and unapologetic, and dares you to do the same. It held a mirror up to me made of nothing but sand and sky and I saw myself clearly for the first time in a long time. No noise. No pretending. Just the raw, unedited version of a soul remembering what it was built for. You are not becoming someone new. You are returning to someone you left behind a long time ago. And they have been so patient with you.
