Had a bit of a busy year at the non-surf coal face but things calming down now so will endeavour to post more!
This is @micahlester from a very short session where he tweaked his ankle shortly after this shot. Still, got a @carvemag cover and a run in the newspapers to take the sting out of it.
As I was starting out, when shooting surf photos was very much a hobby and not a job, I did a round the world trip. Ended up in Sydney after a wonderful five months in the Cooks, Fiji, NZ and WA. Totally skint by this point but scored a job restoring antiques. Got good money cash in hand, so much so that I bought a ticket back to Hawaii for the season. Such an eye opener. Especially still shooting manual focus. This is a pic of Margo, a laconic hero of mine from the Billabong films. Who I got to film a few months later again at the end of the trip at Lakey Pipe. Now that was a sessionā¦
Some days when itās not big enough to ride you can still get a salty fix. This is my favourite corner of reef in the world in Ireland.
Shot on Agfa Scala B&W slide film on probably an EOS3.
As the pros head to Portugal I had to dig out this frame from the most insane Supers day Iāve had the pleasure of shooting. @william_aliotti on the knife edge between heaven and hell.
Finding the right swimfins is a long process. I figured out many years ago the asymmetrical classic Churchill design did not great things to my knees (both of which have been smashed in the course of water shooting duties) and so have gone with straight fins ever since.
Currently rocking DaFin for summer and winter but I aināt got a shot of those. These were some much loved Hydros which are still on āemergency backupā in the shed.
My favourite ever were the short lived grey and yellow Quiksilver fins - light weight, soft foot pockets and good drive and really compact. Sadly they didnāt sell well and apparently thereās a landfill somewhere in France with 100s of the buggers in. Pity as I wouldāve grabbed a lifetime supply if Iād known.
Curren calm in the chaos. Back in the days of the Canon 20D youād be shitting it that youād miss the wave of the winter as you waited for the buffer to clear. Thankfully not an issue these days.
Canada has its moments. Shots from one of the luckiest scores of my career. Day one. Foggy, flat. Then we scored mad waves, blizzards and bluebird conditions with the beach covered in fresh pow. All topped off with lashings of great food and craft beer. You can see why @vincentduvignac and @oli__adams look happy āŗļø
Mole mining a Mexican shorebreak. Shortly after this pic I noticed my housing had a slight leak. Managed to get back to the shallows keeping it upright and promptly got detonated by a set and cracked a rib.
