A lot of people keep asking me... “what’s next?” I think I want to start a bridge between Indy artist and major labels. Show artist how to make a living off their music w/o a major. Make sure artist are getting the best deal possible w/ a major. Create partnerships with brands and artist. Teach artist how to market themselves with minimal budget. Help artist understand the deals they sign beforehand etc. etc. I’ve spent the money and I’ve done the research. I have a good idea of what it takes to get an artist from 0-100 in no time. I need a team of creatives and outside the box thinkers to make this work. If that’s you... get at me!
🗣️Sound on: “Pops was tryna save the people. Son was out here needing help. Got caught up in the midst of the streets and got took off the shelf. The Master Teacher cry out. Conflicted with his use of time. Knowledge is infinite. It’s always more truth to find… Ain’t nothing worse than niggas with money, but got a stupid mind… Damn hold the babies close. The master teacher died broke. The drug dealer died rich. Guess niggas just don’t buy books the way that niggas buy brinks.”
Earlier this year when Gillie Da Kid son was murdered, I came across this song on social media and it hit me hard af. I told myself I can’t go out like that.
Me and my son always been close and I spent as much time with him as humanly possible, with him being in Chicago and me being in Atlanta, but I always wanted more.
“Pops was tryna save the people. Son was out here needing help” I’ve always been that person trying to help anyone looking to start a brand or open a business. From dropping gems on my podcast to writing books for entrepreneurs to sitting down one on one with literally anyone who needed some advice. Listening to this song gave me a different perspective. I’ve had situations in my past where I’ve had regrets on what I “coulda woulda shoulda” did and I’ve had to live with that pain. I’ve always been conflicted with my use of time and one day my son innocently said something to me that made me cry real tears and probably changed my life and forced me into damn near an early retirement. I haven’t been back to Atlanta since… with no regrets. lol The Master Teacher + The Master Student (Listen to this song if you have kids and conflicted about what you should be doing with your time.) ✌🏾

Listen. I only been in the music industry for 3 weeks and I’m disgusted fr. This is my first time taking meetings with major labels. Indy labels. Potential managers. Potential brand partners etc. and mannnnnn… I’ve learned a lot and I’m not too thrilled about what I’m noticing at all.
What I would say to artist. If possible… DO NOT talk to labels while you’re thirsty for money and can’t take care of yourself. Because it’s hard to think straight when you’re in desperation mode. $50,000 is life changing to a person with $50 to their name. Where the issue comes in is when you give up too much for such a small amount. And when I say “too much” I mean your masters to an album or publishing rights.
We did the math!! If you have a hit song… and you own it 100%… The pay out is $5K - $7K per million streams. You only need 7-10 Million streams on that song alone to make that $50,000 advance they’re offering. And in the offer above… the label wanted 50% of the rights to the record for 25/30 years. And that’s even if the song didn’t go Gold or Platinum which would be based on how well they pushed/marketed the song.
Keep in mind this is for 1 song. And we were willing to put up $100,000 in marketing and bypass the $50,000 advance. Which is where they lose leverage when you don’t need their money.
So you’re telling me… even if you don’t provide the results we both agreed are possible… you still want to own 50% of my art?! And YOU solicited me??? No. We do not do it like that papo!! It’s so deep man… we don’t know what we have as a culture and they come in early when we’re uneducated and before you know it… BOOM! U stuck. If you find yourself in a situation like this. Hit me up! I take this personal they been doing us like this for YEARS!!
If you believe in your music enough.. find a marketing budget and let us help you market your music. We don’t want to own you. We just want to put you in the public if you have a good product and say “Hey, we helped with making this blow up to add to our resume.”
The biggest issue I’ve seen is the product not being good enough to work with everyone. We only want to work with cases we believe in.
