We couldn’t have asked for a more incredible day yesterday! THANK YOU to all those who walked alongside us in solidarity, sharing your stories and helping us spread hope and awareness!
Every year, we’re amazed by the impact that the simple act of gathering can have on so many people. Suddenly, individuals who have been touched by suicide and mental health challenges feel a little less alone, surrounded by people who understand.
The walk is one day – but our programs have a similar impact, from students’ suicide prevention work in Hope Squad to the conversations among members of our peer grief support groups. After participating in the walk, we encourage you to visit our website to learn more about what we do.
We want to extend a special thank-you to the following groups:
💜 Our sponsors, fundraisers, and donors who helped raise over $51,000 for suicide awareness and prevention on the Cape & Islands (thus far – the fundraiser will stay open through this month!)
🩵 Our amazing volunteers, including Cape Cod Athletic Club and the many students from schools across the Cape!
💜 Jenya Nesterova for starting our day with gentle movement on the beach
🩵 Stephanie Viva for the great entertainment
💜 Big Tree and Cape Media Center for documenting the day (we can’t wait to see the new walk videos and photos!)
🩵 The courageous speakers who shared their stories and connections to this cause
💜 Our community partners for providing resource tables devoted to mental health and suicide prevention
**There’s still time to donate to the fundraiser! Check out our leaderboard and contribute @ the link in our profile.
We're gearing up for an amazing day of "hope, healing, and humanity" tomorrow at the Suicide Awareness Walk 💜🩵
A little pre-walk checklist for you:
✅ Preregistered? Have your confirmation email ready, which contains a QR code for easy check-in (email subject line: 2026 Suicide Awareness Walk Registration)
✅ Wear comfy sneakers or walking shoes
✅ Plan to get there early (starting at 8:30 AM) to partake in all the pre-walk activities!
✅ Bring a yoga mat or towel if you're participating in Rise & Breathe with Jenya Nesterova on Veterans Park Beach at 9 AM!
✅ You're welcome to bring a photo of a person you lost to suicide to share on our Memory Wall. We'll also be writing memories to post on the wall at the walk!
✅ Take a deep breath and remember why we're gathering: to share our stories, support each other, and "smash the stigma" that surrounds suicide and mental health!

How are you doing today — really?
When you're around the right people, you don't always have to be "fine" or "good."
Spaces like our Sharing Kindness Suicide Awareness Walk are created with that in mind—so no one has to feel alone in their journey.
Meet us THIS Saturday at Veterans Park Beach in Hyannis, where you are welcome to share your story and connect with others who understand. We look forward to walking alongside you.👣
👉 Preregister @ the link in our profile (before 5 PM today!)

We have two great events coming up with the talented Jenya Nesterova of Breath & Sound!
☀️ Rise & Breathe at the Suicide Awareness Walk
Jenya will be joining us at the Suicide Awareness Walk in Hyannis THIS Saturday, May 16! If you're planning to attend, bring a yoga mat or towel and meet her at Veterans Park Beach at 9 AM for Rise & Breathe, a gentle movement session to start your day.
🧘🏽♂️ Movement & Meditation at Sharing Kindness
Join us for a free Movement & Meditation session next Thursday, May 21 at 6 PM in South Harwich.
➡️ Register for both events at the link in our profile!
The walk is coming up THIS Saturday, and we’re about halfway to our fundraising goal of $75,000!
100% of these funds go directly to our nonprofit, covering the cost of suicide prevention and awareness programs right here on the Cape & Islands. Programs like Hope Squad in (14!) local schools, suicide prevention training for community members, and grief support programs for suicide loss survivors benefit your friends and neighbors, helping us build a more suicide-aware, grief-sensitive community. 💜🩵
➡️ Will you join the movement? Track our fundraiser and donate today @ the link in our profile!

You may not always see the impact, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Kindness has a way of reaching people when they need it most.
This is what our community is all about—showing up, supporting one another, and reminding each other that we’re not alone. 💜🩵
And if you’d like to be part of something bigger, join us on May 16 at Veterans Park Beach in Hyannis for the Sharing Kindness Suicide Awareness Walk.

Mother's Day can be a difficult holiday filled with complex emotions — especially for those who are grieving the loss of a mother or mother figure in their lives.
A supporter of Sharing Kindness, Kayla Marie Jorgensen courageously shared her story for our blog, which explores her own grief and the challenges of being raised by a mother with mental illness.
"I expect to be sad on my birthday or Christmas, but it’s the random Tuesday morning when I hear a song that reminds me of her. 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac is always the culprit. My heart hurts when seeing a mom and her daughter out to get ice cream, or when something happens and I want to tell her about it so bad just to hear what she would say. I love my dad, I love my brother, I love my friends. But there are just some things you just want to talk to your mom about, some things you truly need her for and I never got the chance."

If you plan to attend, we recommend registering as soon as possible @ the link in our profile.
**Please note that this year, we will be temporarily closing registration at 5 PM on Thursday, May 14th and reopening at check-in time on walk day (May 16 at 8:30 AM). You can always register at the walk, but preregistering does ease the check-in process!
We are seeking an office manager who is organized, flexible, and a great multi-tasker to join our growing team! This position is part-time (15-20 hours/week) and in-person at our Harwich location. Full details available @ the link in our profile.
The pastor of the Federated Church of Orleans, Darren Morgan is almost always the first to donate and sign up for Sharing Kindness events. Both he and the church are sponsors of our Suicide Awareness Walk on May 16th. We sat down with him recently to discuss his work, life, and why suicide awareness is important to him.
Rev. Morgan said that he values the “ministry” of Sharing Kindness: “You’re walking with people, not in the religious aspect of the ministry – it’s a ministry of presence. Because to a certain extent, whatever is hurting somebody, I’m here to walk with you through this pain... The work that Sharing Kindness does I really appreciate. They really are putting a spotlight, shining a light of love through dark times.”
