Just wrapped a powerful #RONderings conversation with LaShawnna Harris, EdD—and one moment stayed with me: She opened a school with 220 kindergarten students. Systems? Tight. Operations? Strong. Execution? On point. And still… She nearly lost the role before it fully began. Why? Because technical excellence without relationship-building will only take you so far. LaShawnna’s journey is layered: • Queens → RPI engineering → pivot to management • Became a mother in college and still finished • Entered education through NYC Teaching Fellows post-9/11 • Rose to founding principal → then entrepreneur And now? She’s built sharEDtalent—a platform designed to connect people, resources, and opportunity across education and social impact spaces. But the part that really hit me was her research: Many Black entrepreneurs learn trust through negative experiences. So when we say: “Just network more” “Just ask for help” We’re missing something deeper. Trust isn’t automatic. It has to be intentionally designed. Her RONdering: “Make the ask. Be okay with no.
