I’m Shao Yang, building in the space between remembering and forgetting.
I come from a Taipei that no longer exists—humid, crowded, sharp as the rhythms of a language I couldn’t understand but always felt. That city still lives in my bones.
Brooklyn came next: Chinese school pencil strokes, Chinatown video shops, dumpling-folding as inherited choreography. Each one a signal reconnecting me to a place I had already left.
Taiwan taught me no place fully belongs to me; Brooklyn taught me to walk like every place could. I exist in that tension.
My garments come from there too: a collar the body remembers, proportions etched before language, a blue that bridges two islands. Not fusion, but dual anchoring.
Every cut carries Taipei’s humidity and Brooklyn’s concrete. Not decoration, but structure. A way of rebuilding home through form.
SHAO lives in that in-between space—never empty, never waiting. Already whole. Already home.
You’re cordially invited to MISREADING.
A two-day cultural program for AAPI Heritage Month during New York Art & Design Week.
The project introduces SHAO’s Fall/Winter 2026 Collection, first shown in Shanghai, within a New York context through a dialogue with Artist Chinglish Wang. The format moves between installation, event, and public programming.
The program will take place across two days:
• May 20: Private preview and reception for invited media, press, buyers, tastemakers, and cultural figures.
• May 21: Public exhibition and open programming accessible to all visitors.
.
Together, the program creates a dialogue between fashion, art, and contemporary Asian diasporic culture. We look forward to welcoming you.

Interview Part III.
Centered around the AW26 collection, the conversation moves from New York to Shanghai, from early inspirations rooted in Hong Kong movies and Chinatown visual culture to a broader reflection on identity and belonging.
For SHAO, this return to Shanghai marks not just a runway presentation, but a long-awaited reconnection, where local voice, production, and cultural context take center stage.
