When celebrating Mother’s Day turns into a diatribe from the road. Sunday I drove 11 hours from Vancouver to Idaho. Then Monday I drove 11 hours from Idaho to Shasta. Thinking about my boys who are now 18 and 21 and what a proud mother I am. Also thinking about my foibles and flaws and all the things that make us original as parents— were not meant to be perfect. We’re meant to try our best and be as curious and loving as possible in the process and who cares if I didn’t get to go for brunch or get a bouquet of flowers. I drank strong coffees, ate sunflower seeds, and watched the most spectacular scenery roll by and thought of the many brilliant times I’ve shared with my beautiful boys, my husband and also the people I’m meeting on this incredible book tour/road trip. This book tour has been a whirlwind of emotion—challenging, yes, but also humbling and beautiful. From reconnecting with old friends to meeting new ones, I’m tremendously grateful for everyone who’s welcomed me.
