❤︎ Paiahahaa! Paiahahaa! ~ I am humbled to present 𝑯𝑶𝑳𝒀 𝑾𝑨𝑹 𝑰𝑰 - a reimagined version of the opening track from my debut album “𝓖𝓲𝓻𝓵, 𝓘𝓷 𝓐 𝓢𝓪𝓿𝓪𝓰𝓮 𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭.” It has been an honour to work on this special collaboration for

𝑯𝑶𝑳𝒀 𝑾𝑨𝑹 𝑰𝑰 is imbued with the anger and pain colonization inflicted on my people. This is felt through the piercing reo kootike waahine Maaori (ᴍᴀᴀᴏʀɪ ғᴇᴍᴀʟᴇ sᴏᴘʀᴀɴᴏ ᴠᴏɪᴄᴇs), the fury and wehi of our puukana and the haunting roar of the string section commanding the listener to hear our plea for the end of conflict. Kaare e kore, the mamae is palpable and yet the steadfast hope and beauty of Indigenous female solidarity beams through.
It’s of utmost importance to me to mention that I composed this waiata to be held with the tongikura (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴), from within my iwi, naa too taatou Kiingi Taawhiao Pootatau Te Wherowhero II which states “𝑰 𝒓𝒊𝒓𝒐 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒖𝒂 𝒂𝒕𝒖, 𝒎𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒌𝒊 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒖𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒊” (“ᴀs ʟᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀs sᴛᴏʟᴇɴ, sᴏ ᴛᴏᴏ ᴍᴜsᴛ ɪᴛ ʙᴇ ʀᴇᴛᴜʀɴᴇᴅ”)
