This weekend, I had the opportunity to meet @jetli , a man whose iconic film career inspired me to follow the martial path for over three decades and ultimately become a Sifu.
His portrayal of the legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hung in the “Once Upon a Time in China” film series had a profound impact on me. In the pre-internet era, that inspiration led me to seek out the lineage of Hung Gar Kung Fu, become a dedicated student of my Sifu, YC Wong, and join the martial lineage connected to Wong Fei Hung himself. Later, I was also privileged to learn Kung Fu from my Sifu Raymond K. Wong. For the past two decades, I’ve had the honor of passing those traditions on to students of my own.
In recent years, I’ve hoped to inspire a new generation to explore the study of Kung Fu through @shadowghostcomic , my comic book series that serves as a love letter to the martial arts films that shaped my journey as both a practitioner and teacher — including the films of Jet Li, whose work helped ignite my passion for Kung Fu in the first place.
It was both a pleasure and an honor not only to meet Mr. Li and receive a copy of his new book, “Beyond Life and Death,” but also to attend a theatrical screening of “Once Upon a Time in China” — my first time ever seeing the film in a theatrical setting — preceded by a Q&A session with Jet Li and his daughter, Jane.
The impact he has had on myself and countless others is immeasurable, and I’m deeply moved by his continued commitment to sharing the lessons and philosophy he has gained through his films, his life experiences, and now through his new book and beyond.

Another great screening with @hkcinemaclub , featuring Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.
It was also co-founder @nickythefox birthday, making it an especially fun night celebrating with fellow fans of Hong Kong action cinema and meeting new friends who share the same passion.
Directed by Lam Nai-choi and starring Fan Siu-wong, Riki-Oh is a cult classic known for its over-the-top martial arts action, extreme violence, and unforgettable camp factor. Set in a dystopian private prison, the film follows Ricky, a fighter with superhuman strength who takes on brutal wardens and the infamous “Four Heavenly Kings.”
Originally released in 1991, the film gained a lasting cult following for its wild storytelling and outrageous fight sequences.
Huge thanks to @kenji_mcguire and Nicky for putting together another incredible screening.

At WonderCon, you never know what you’re going to see if you just take a moment to look around.
We were outside the Anaheim Convention Center, taking in all the cosplay around us, when my eyes drifted upward—way above the ground floor. Standing alone on a high balcony was a figure watching everything below.
It took me a second, then I smiled. It was Uatu… or at least someone bringing him to life.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Uatu is the Watcher assigned to observe Earth—sworn not to interfere, only to witness.
And there he was, perfectly in character… silently watching from above.
It’s that kind of creativity, awareness, and sense of play that I love about conventions. Sometimes the best moments aren’t on the show floor—they’re the ones you almost miss if you’re not paying attention.
Moments like this are a reminder of why I love creating Shadow Ghost—being part of a community that celebrates imagination at every level.

Back at @wondercon after missing last year—and it felt great to return.
Even without a big studio presence, the fandom brought the energy. Creativity, passion, and that independent spirit were everywhere—and that’s what really makes cons like this special.
Awesome catching up with Christine and Kenny, and reconnecting with my longtime friend and mentor from my Malibu Comics days, Dave Olbrich, now Marketing and Publications Editor for Comic-Con International.
Moments like these are always a reminder of why I continue creating @shadowghostcomic .
Another great con in the books.

Had a great time catching up with martial arts actor Quinlan Darnell over some incredible Cuban food at @versaillescubanfood@nousdemiurge is part of a new generation of rising talent in action cinema, and it’s always inspiring connecting with artists who are pushing things forward. We had a great conversation about martial arts, film, and our respective creative journeys—always good to exchange ideas and perspectives.
Also had the chance to congratulate him on the recent addition to his family—an exciting new chapter.

Excited to receive my copies of Undead Kung Fu: Ghost Killer by @plugoarts . This mystical story—steeped in Chinese mythology—comes from the world of A Tiger’s Tale, and Patrick absolutely knocked it out of the park with this book.
I was thrilled to receive three different editions with special covers, including the variant cover I illustrated and a very special hand-drawn custom cover featuring one of my favorite yokai, the Kappa.
If you’re in the area, you can check out Patrick’s work at the upcoming exhibition @sungalleryandmakerspace
