I had to talk about this. Recently, we’ve seen many new patients transfer to our clinic because their previous clinic shut down. The reason is devastating: a physiotherapist there was sexually assaulting patients. They have been revoked from the professional order and will never be allowed to practice again.
These patients were vulnerable, and that person took advantage of their position of power. The victims often said, ‘They were a physio, I just did what they said,’ because of that authority.We are often told to ‘tone it down’ or not to cause a scene. But overriding a feeling of concern just to be polite can lead us to ignore red flags, resulting in emotional strain or even danger. My psychology teacher once told me: ‘If someone or something makes you uncomfortable, there is a reason.’ I have lived by those words ever since.
If something doesn’t feel right, say something to a trusted friend or family member. Most of the time, they will remind you that you aren’t crazy. Please, listen to that little voice. It might just save you. ❤️
